Title: Central locking
Post by: kmason8282 on 03 January 2009, 01:06:50
My car is a 98 Elite Estate.

The problem that has arisen is that the driver doors locking mechanism does not sync with the rest of the doors, ie if the car is looked I have to press the fob twice for the drivers door to unlock, yet once for the remaining doors.  Similar with locking.

I suspect the central locking may need some kind of reset (well that is what happened on my audi that has a similar issue anyhow)

Sounds like the door locking motor is weak, and will prob need a new central locking unit for the drivers door.

Gents,
One thing I have noticed then I manualy (via key of course) lock the car in the lock position all doors locked fine however when I unlock via the key all doors expect the same drivers side do does not unlock.  Is this a symptom of a solenoid failure or something else is going wrong somewhere.
thx

Same thing happened on my '97 Omega. I took the unit out and cleaned it up. It was covered in a sort of dough from dust and oil. That was about 8 years ago and no trouble since.

Same thing happened to me too..
Took it all apart, cleaned it, lubricated it and mounted it back on.
No difference.
So, took it apart again and carefully observed the locking function on the lock assembly. Discovered a slight wear, so i decided to give it a few solid knocks with the hammer on keypoints to even out the wear, and after that I grinded the sharp edges with a file to make it work smoothely. I advice you to bring the lockingassembly out of the car and into your garage or workshop to perform this properly as you need good light conditions.

I also drilled up the connection arm between the solenoid and the motor resulting the connection arm pushing the locking assembly a litle further
Worked like a charm, however I am not sure if the drilling really was required. Saved me some bucks, did not exchange any parts at all.

On reassembly make sure that you dont push the locking nob too far down, this will make it jam and keep you busy for a while:)
