Cheapest I can get fuel is 103.9 nearby to me now, it's absolutely stupid and I refuse to pay it anymore.
I have now bought the LPG kit (link below). I will have it fully fitted and working within two weeks. I am not messing around, I will not be filling up at the petrol pumps again!!
Markie and I anticipate two days (weekend after next maybe?) to get it complete, over a weekend. Given the short days.

I rekon getting this now for £500 is a good move - LPG kits are set to go up in price with the way fuel prices are going.
I'll obviously post updates on progress, I'll be in particular linking in with Kevin and JayW to compare ideas, especially as Jay and I have the identical kit, and Kevin is strongly considering getting it too. I'll also be liaising with Martin, and will ask him kindly to inspect our work, and give his input for improvements etc.
Even if it's finished by the LPG party, I will still attend to help out etc.
Updates to follow :y

Looks good. With that kit you've bought, do you have to get any other stuff to finish the job? In other words, tank 'n' pipes etc.
-
Unfortunately LPG price has gone up too >:(
Im now paying 43ppl :'(
And just got my monthly bill this morning....£308 :o

So, remind us what the cost is, relative to petrol, when you take into account the lower efficiency.

Last month i used 725L of LPG......so if you knock off, say 20% for lower efficiency.....its not gonna be anymore than 20%, that might be on the high side.
That leaves 580L.........petrol @ £1ppl £580.......so a saving of about £272.
However I would never run a petrol Omega as a Taxi.......so if I had a diesel 'something' I probably save about £100/month compared to diesel
-
Sequential gas, which is well tuned to the car's engine management, will not have much lower efficiency. I will still expect about 25mpg on gas, which is equal to over 55mpg on petrol...cost wise..

I already have tank fitted - and the kit comes with pipes.
But I'm using polyflex...

43ppl... you poor beggar, most are paying over £1 :P
Your monthly fuel cost is less than mine - and I only drive for personal reasons !! :-[
-
I am not surprised you bit the bullet and bought the gas system james. 1.03p a litre is just stupid and i think it will still go up more.
More and more people will be going over to gas if the price of gas does not go stupid

Cheaper to fill my barbeque bottle up with Autogas at 48.5 (Grafton Flyford#) than exchange it
# Put a bit in there during nasty floods as I had not enough fuel to get home after all the diversions.
50 feet past their entrance - the road was flooded

Yes, and fit radios, valeting ect
They don't do fitting though - years ago someone there did by all accounts

Filling the gas bottles is the easy bit :y
How you get the gas out again is the problem......easy on an empty tank......virually no pressure to contend with to start with.....i guess he must pump it out somehow? :-/
-
hehe, it could work out very very cheap if a method of pumping it in could be devised.... [smiley=evil.gif]
-
Not of course suggesting anything naughty, but its a shame you couldn't just have a plug in gas connector, that could connect to the calor bottle you had in the boot. Provided it was secure, and the connection method was an approved fitting there should be no problem. They allow builders etc to travel with gas bottles in the back, held in by a chain.

Just seen some useful pumps on ebay, for transferring between calor bottles and LPG tanks... ::)

Why not fill the car tank direct at an Autogas station?
It is VERY expensive in bottles
-
TBH, I will just fill up at filling stations, LPG is cheap enough not to worry about it.
It's just the devil in me thinking of the possibilities.. [smiley=evil.gif]

I have a large LPG tank buried under my front garden as we don't have any mains gas in our village. Now, the bulk LPG price is about 30p per litre so a massive saving over forecourt prices.
All that would be needed would be a reliable way of pumping the gas from the tank into the car. They even come round in a nice big lorry to fill the tank up whenever it's needed.
:y :y
-
You would have thought that if your car tank was empty, the presure would be low, and hence if you just connected the 2 together, there would be quite a transfer without any need for pumping. Thats the theory, I'm not too hot on the actual figures, but it should work.

Transfer pump - in you situation I would not be contemplating a conversion, I would have had it done ASAP

Well, come and show me how to do it then. :y

Good luck with the conversation James, will be interested to hear how you get on as I intend on doing the same. Like you, I am fed up with paying over £1 per litre.
In fact, today I am going to fill both cars so that I avoid and further "gradual" increases of a penny here and there. I wonder what the cost will be in total - 55 litres for the Cavalier and 65 for the Omega - around £120, most of which goes straight to the government which really annoys me >:( >:( >:( >:(
Anyway, good luck - I will be most interested to learn how you interface with the existing engine loom - I like the idea of the "piggy back" injector connections as mentioned in the other thread.

Did you need planning permission for that tank? :-/
Or can anyone go and bung a big tank in the garden?

You don't need planning permission, remember that my tank is underground. Flogas or BP will fit it for you, at a price. I guess you have mains gas so they may ask questions why you want a domestic LPG tank when it is more expensive than mains gas?

Interesting....thankyou
And by the time you have paid the road duty on it.....about 6p/L iirc it wouldnt really be worth it ;)

It's a valid point. I wonder what the gas company would say if my gas consumption suddenly quadrupled or more overnight?

Just tell em your growing cannabis in the bedroom, they will understand then.

Errr nothing....tho they would probably rub their hands in delight and put you on their christmas card list ;D

The problem with using your existing heating gas tank is that you probably don't have a liquid take-off, as the heating system usually simply draws the gas from the top of the tank. The liquid sits at the bottom, evaporating to fill the available space as gas is removed from the top. To use it in a car, you'd need a liquid feed installed at the bottom, otherwise you'd need to re-liquify the gas which would need a suitable compressor/pump, and it gives out a lot of heat (basically the opposite of what happens in the vapouriser).
If you go to a petrol station that has propane for road fuel use, you'll see that the tank has a take-off at the bottom. Then look at a house with an over-ground propane tank for heating, and the take-off will be at the top, just like a calor gas bottle.
-
Well, as I will soon be buying a 4cyl petrol car, I guess I'd best look into getting an LPG kit fitted!
cheers for the link James :y
