Hi everyone just after a wee bit of advice really... We have had our pre-facelift 1998 manual MV6 for nearly 3 years now.it has covered 125,000 and never let us down once :y It is in the rare "Antelope" colour and has the velour interior.
It had 1 previous owner before us who really looked after the engine he had it serviced at a main dealers in Blackpool and we sent off for a print out which gives for some good reading.
There are a few bits of rust on the bodywork too.
Anyway just recently it has felt really funny on the front end and reading the forums it seems like the wishbones now need replacing.
It has affected the front tyres which were new not that long ago :(
The airbag light is on all the time and we found it it was the drivers seat airbag.A lot of people have said it could be lose wires underneath the seat ?
We have just bought ourselves another manual MV6 with only 54,000 on the clock with FSH and so within the next week or so our original MV6 will be up for sale. It runs out of tax at the end of December and needs an mot in January it sailed through the last mot and the garage said it will prob need its brake pipe replacing next time.
So..this is our dilemma do we sell as is or get the wishbones replaced before we sell ?
Your input is most appreciated

i think you need to weigh up how much difference the repairs will make in the final sale
how much more could you sell it if it's fully repaired... would you then sell it with full MOT and tax? would you get much more for it if you did sell it taxed MOTd and repaired, and indeed, would you actually manage to sell it as is, unrepaired for enough money?
-
Well.....i would....
Get the airbag light sorted out.....as its an MOT failure.
Then get it MOT'd.....if it passes great :y You can sell it with 12months ticket and worth a few more sheckles. :y
I wouldnt bother to tax it....unless you havent sold it before the tax runs out.

Hi Taxi Driver I have looked into the airbag issue (which in this case involves the airbag in the drivers seat) and it's NOT and mot failure. Airbags are not part of the mot test. ;)

Thats the dilema I face...lol don't have a clue what sort of money it would be worth without the repairs and then with the repairs done?

Nine year old omega, 125,000 miles, short tax and mot. IMHO you'd be lucky to get £800-£1000.
If you work backwards from there, you may be able tp work out whether it's worth spending money on or not.
Also remember that omegas always fetch a few bob for spares or repair.

Hi
Yep sorry as you say airbag light isnt part off MOT......i thought it was....but just googled for it and it isnt....so forget that bit :y But i would try to get a 12month ticket on it unless its gonna cost you too much :y

You could try putting it on Autotrader as it is and see what interest you get. I think that below £1000 it only costs c.£7 for 2 weeks online ad.

So you agree with me, less than £1000.

Yeah...I suppose if someone is handy with the old tools and can do the wishbones themselves (I have seen a pair of genuine ones on e-bay for£100 and non gen a lot cheaper) it dosen't look too daunting.
My hubby is quite capable of doing this job but I think he would rather sell as is (Although he hasn't actually said that..lol) It's a matter of time really he works nights so only gets weekends to work on the car and the longer we take there is going to be less and less left on the tax and mot.
It would definately need 2 front tyres for the mot and like I said they did mention the brake pipe last time.
May place it on e-bay and be very very honest with a reserve and see what happens.

If hubby can do wishbones try www.buypartsby.co.uk for a pair delivered for £41.62 and 2/3 hours work it would make all the difference to the "test drive" when you get someone interested. ;)
I have them on mine as do many other OOF members :)

Hi Chopsdad
Cheers for the advice I have now ordered the Wishbones and we have decided to put it through it's mot before we sell it.It's a great car its never let us down it would be a shame to have to let it go for spares or repair.
Thanks once again

I'm not convinced about ebay for selling cars (I'm sure others will disagree though :))
I think its expensive and you get a large number of idiots who don't complete on sales either because they bid on a whim or they are expecting a perfect car, costing you the time and potentially other serious buyers.

Being honest I dont think you would get anymore than £1300 to £1500 for the MV6 with a full MOT, and by the time you have paid the wishbones and messed about in the cold and then another £160 for two tyres, £50 for the MOT, then theres the question about when the cambelt/tensioners were last changed.
I would sell as is or do the work and chance the Autotrader

Feel a purchase comin somewhere ;)

Cheers for the advice ..call me a silly woman but I couldn't bear to see the car broken..Like I have said before it has never let us down in the 3 years we have owned it and it is a really unusual colour "Antelope" which really gets looks. 8-) so we have decided to do the work and I ordered the wishbones this morning. We will then get an mot before it goes up for sale.We would be happy if it fetched £1300/£1500..
