Title: Grumbling/Droning Noise
Post by: damon80 on 23 January 2009, 11:09:57
Hi Folks,

From 65mph+ on my Miggy, a grumbling/droning noise starts.  Can't really hear where it's coming from.

When accellerating, the noise goes away.  But when I lift off, the noise comes back.

Anybody any ideas??

I would guess it sounds like its coming from-Diff- Prop- Axles.if the noise has appeared suddenly on overun, somethings come loose or a bearing problem, needs quick attention, best of luck, Cliff. :-? :-/

Swap tyres front to rear and see if it goes away.

What you thinking could be the problem MDTM?  Doesn't seem to be any uneven wear, and had the rear wheels balanced a couple of weeks ago?

I think the great one suspects the tyres may be old/worn.  Probably the compound going hard with age.

My parents had this on their veccy.  The back end was really noisy.  A new pair of tyres solved the problem and it now back to being quiet

Hi,
I had a mysterious droning / deep whine that came and went as it pleased, sometimes seemed to be road related, sometimes load or speed related. Became convinced it was rear wheel or diff.

Had MOT and came back with advisory on slight rumble on N/S front wheel bearing. Changed hub bearing unit all OK now.

Everyone I asked to listen to try to locate it reckoned noise was from rear.  Give your front wheel bearings a check first, like me, you may be surprised.

Might be worth checking the exhaust at the rear too. First sign of mine starting to go was a rumble at certain speed / load combinations. My initial thoughts were a diff rumble too.
