Got a new set of leads for my Omega, is there much disassembley required to fit ? The current ones are originals (!) and after a rocker gasket failure on one side are a bit carp ;)
Easiet steps....? Approx. time ?

It depends whether you can get your hands in. You'll find removing (moving is easier for your car as your washers are fitted to it) the plastic scuttle from under the screen will help at lot to give access.

There's a maintenance guide on how to remove spark plugs - I guess it's pretty much what you would have to do - its pretty awkward getting to the dis pack by the way (even with scuttle removed) - as for times a skilled experienced mechanic would probably take about an hour - it'd probably take me 3 days :-[ but I guess a day would suffice. :y

Well, will take off the scuttle and try to get on....does the plenum need to come off, meaning will it improve access ?

If you can "see" with your hands, then the Plenum can stay on.

I recall you saying in another post that when the chap changed the plugs, one of the threads was stripped?
How badly damaged is the thread and how secure is the plug? I'm just thinking this could be part off the problem, if the plug isn't tight enough in the head? :y

Yeah, true......but that is a whole load more pennies to spend if helicoil or similar required.....based on the leads on that side being sh1te (as you will no doubt recall :)) I figured that changing the leads is a good start point....

I agree, in as much as the leads are worth changing. They were servicable, but not at their best!!
Only problem is, if the issue continues, you may end up having to sort out the known issue :'(

Passenger side, deffo, but not sure which one - will ask the guy......but knowing my luck on this side of the engine so far ;)

just changed my DIS module,Ht leads & plugs this weekend!
if your dis pack is mounted horizontally its alot easier
bit of advice do one lead at a time as you cant see what lead is what i used my old coil as a guide!
its easier if you remove the plenum and the vaccuum & ECU bus tray as the left bank is hard to access with out removing them there is also lots of different leads and hoses by the dispack and they get in the way alot!!!
took me around 4 hours all in to do mine first attempt aswell!

Still, good news is the leads only cost me a princely £30.74 and so that is at least one positive bit of news.....
@ James - spoke to the chap who did the gasket and whacked the plugs in and he is happy that the plug is in as good as can be....reckons it will be the lead arcing most likely, but will be my man for a helicoil (crossing fingers it doesn't need >:()

I removed the scuttle and plenum to do mine, as i have LPG which makes it 10 worse. Still 3.5 hrs to replace plugs and leads.
It is fidely but what isnt on these....lol

It usually is, due to some ham fisted mechanic not being able to quite get his half-arsed tools vertical, and puts it in cross threaded.

Wow that's cheap - where did you get them from - all the one's I have looked at cost around the £90 mark :o unless you got them from a breakers.
