Title: 2.5TD Viscous Fan Removal
Post by: Spearmint on 04 February 2009, 12:57:24
That rather great big 32mm bolt on the back. Any tips in how to shift it without the water pump pulley moving as well?

Never done an Omega's, but the Senator's fan was held on with a M6(?) LEFT HAND THREAD cap head, the 32 held the nut at the back, while you undid the bolt at the front.

Had a look for a nut or something on the front which drew a negative.

I've tried giving the spanner a good sharp whack with a mallet but the pulley moves just as much.

There is a way in which you can wedge a long flat blade screwdriver in from the left (as you look at the front of the car) against a bolt head on the pulley and the underside of the viscous main bolt -  which allows space on the right for a whacking great adjustable to wrench the bugger off with.

Once it is cracked it will shift quickly, then it just just spins off.  :y
