Title: Radiator Drain Tap !!

Can someone remind me how it is fitted to the radiator ie screwed, clamped, plastic welded ?
My omega has a coolant leak which looks as if it's the 'drain tap' not sealing, so can it be replaced, do I need new 'seals' or a new unit, an info would be of help.

just un screws mate, normal thread iirc. mine was stiff too, think there should be a rubber washer

Hi, as above it just screws in, has 2 rubber seals on it. Mine had started leaking from there and it was cause the rubber seals had expanded and didnt seal properly. When I took it out to find the cause the seals wouldnt go back into the rad and needed replacing (vaux had to order them. They arent expensive and if you are sure its leaking from there I would advise getting new ones before you take the old one out.
I made a new seal by cutting a vry small section out of a diferent seal and superglueing the ends together. Held until the new ones arrived.

Someone has sent a text, "I should replace the 'O' ring seal" would that fix it ?

There you go ....... 2 seals as shown. When I thought I had a leak from mine I just replaced the whole thing .... only a couple of quid. (my rad was fubar'd as it turned out)

I think you'll find it's called an 'anti-unscrewy wotsit'!

Ah, you're right!

At least both my anti-leaky o-rings were in their correct 'seaty-bitties'. :)

(Shame the radiator was leaking like a stuck pig elsewhere).

p.s. Tap £3 + 2 'o' rings £1 each (but I have to buy a bag of 5 !!!!) Vauxhall have some strange dealers........

P.S. can the 'body' the tap fits into be replaced or is it part of the rad ?

My new tap came with both O rings already fitted.
Typically when I ordered a fill valve for my air-con I ordered a viton O ring to go with it. When he new valve arrived ....... yes it already had one fitted. Anyone want an air-con fill valve O ring?  ;D :y

Part of the radiator. If it's goosed, someone on the forum ... can't remember now who  :-[ .... used some Magic Bond (http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Devcon-Magic-Bond-Epoxy-Putty-28920.htm) (at my suggestion  ;)) to fill the hole. I've used it in the past on my Senator's petrol tank. $hit and blacket springs to mind.  :y  :y  :y

New Drain tap on order £2.19, however sealed the hole up while I wait for new part !!!!!!! Coolant all over the bottom righthand corner of the rad, can't see where the leak is, bo11ocks.
Will have to take the top hose and battery off to get a good look, may need a replacement rad !!  :'( :'(
Any offers ?
