Every now and then if my car has trouble starting it will turn the EML on, have to keep turning it off and re-starting until it has a clean start and the light stays off.
Saw in apost that the paper clip test doesnt work on a 2.2? is that right? and does the pedal trick work on a 2.2?
Also.......i read online somewhere if the car has 20-25 clean starts without the light coming on it clears the codes and it should be fine? is this true.....cheers :y
Mines a 53 plate, 2.2 petrol, auto :)

need code reader on 2.2
some codes clear, some don't

Dam! just my luck to have the car that dont have the quick, cheap option lol
so that 20-25 clean starts thing does work then? i have tried it but usually i get to 15-18 and the poxy thing has a bad start and the light comes on lol ::)

Thats called sods law ;D

this EML light thing seems to be a common problem on all vauxhalls , or maybe just the ones ive had ::), every vectra ( have had 3) and every omega (had 3 of them also) has had this light come on, are vauxhalls engine management systems just more problemactic than other makes?

Some manufacturers - BMW being a prime example - rarely bring on the EML, even when it detects faults, in an attempt to make it seem more reliable.
Personally, I would like the ecu to tell me when its detetced an abnormality :-/

think id rather be kept in the dark lol always happy when i get a new car because theres no light then within a few weeks, the little orange git pops up! >:(

That may well end up with a more expensive repair though, or an unexpected breakdown.
Hence I would like to know up front so I can do something about it before I get screwed. This is someone who broke down halfway down France due to an EML not coming on to warn of a failing sensor...
-
yeah there is that i guess, just depressing when it lights up all the time lol gues id better try and find someone that can plug it in for me and read the codes, although at the moment the light is off totally, but one flase start and it'll be back
-
Cam sensor mate!
My Y plate used to do that,my mates garage told me to bring it in with the light on so he could plug in his Snap On computer.....
Took me ages to get it in because it was so intermitent!
Finally got it in and it was the sensor, got it changed along with the belt, tensioners and water pump....
Problem solved :y

Well the car is due its cam belt change, it was done at 40k by previous owner and car is just coming upto 80k now, the light is off tottally at the moment, even when i turn the key it will light up with the other lights but then goes off with them also so im guessing the codes have cleared on it. But like i say one false start and it will be back ::)
Anyone know wat the average price is for a cam belt change on a 2.2 omega? wont be done at a mian dealer obviosuly lol
-
At a garage i just paid £240 for full timing belt kit and water pump
:y
-
£240! :o lol god im glad i got my pay rise this year! lol im guessing thats without labour costs aswell, and i need my back pads changed!, so im guess im looking at a £300++ bill :o
-
dont change parts willy nilly, get the codes read first.
-
2 hours labour at £45 ish
The rest on parts......i thought that was quite cheap myself
-
i wont lol i dont like spending cash on things that need to be done let alone things that dont need to be, but the belt needs to be done every 40k miles dont it? just wish it was cheaper! :y
-
£240 or...................
Car written off as un-economical repair,if the belt snaps and destroys your engine...
I'll take the £240 bill any day! :y :y :y
-
Ai, when u look at the bigger picture £240 quid dont seem so bad , its just handing over the cash it hard to do, but if it keeps the silver beast on the road its worth it in the end :y
-
Totally mate...
Just not worth the risk.....im Scottish mate,so i certainly dont like parting with my cash! ;D but i was actually quuite happy to hand over my £240...it was worth it to have peace of mind.... :y

Arent there certain engines used in the omega range that dont have a belt but use a chain that never needs to be changed? i cant afford a bigger engine, already paying over a grand insurance on a 2.2 lol but a mate is after a omega
-
Could be wrong but i beleive the 2.2 DTi is chain driven?
-
Chains need changed too though mate, just not as often

chains need replacing as well, and cost a damn sight more

I've said this previously - go to GT Motors in Maesteg.
'PM' me your number and I'll get the ball rolling.
