Struggling to start may well be crank sensor, although could be battery or alternator failing...

Sluggish driving on an auto is usually low gearbox fluid

On a 2.2 its more likely to be the cam sensor actualy.

It needs the fault codes reading to confrm.

I would suspect cam sensor as well, fault code P0340.

Unfortunately, the only way to read the codes on a 2.2 is to plug it in a diagnostic tester.  Maybe a nearby member can read the codes for you for the price of a couple of pints?

how easy is it to fit a new cam sensor on a 2.2  although its only happened 4 times in 14 months bur twice in the last 2 months

restart of the car sorts it out at the moment

very easy - cambelt cover off, and plug cover off :)

Get the codes read anyway before changing any parts...

Sounds like Cam Sensor - Is it limited to 4500 RPM when it's acting sluggish?
