Title: Temp gauge
Post by: portomega on 14 February 2009, 21:37:50
Ive noticed recently thay the engine temp gauge has been taking quiet a long time to register any reading, sometimes takes upto 5 mins for the needle to move. Once or twice its just gotten stuck and a quick thump to the dash gets it to move lol but lately that hasnt worked. Any ideas to why its taking so long to read any temp rise?
cheers :y

May be a stat problem, rather than gauge ;)

is that quick and easy to change? and more importantly, cheap? :) but if it is the guage itself how hard would that be to fix? because isnt the dash a sealed unit?

Can't remember 2.2 stat price, but dead easy.

Need to prove if stat or gauge, or temp sensor first.

ok cheers will get it checked out, its due its cam belt change very very soon so i guess i'll had the temp guage.sat to the list of to do things aswell when it goes to the garage.
Ive never really paid much attention to the temp gauge at the start of driving , would any of you say 5 mins or over is a long time for the needle to start moving?

Should up to working temp within 5 mins..

If the 2.2 is the same as my 2.0, the proper stat includes the ally housing as well, hence £20-odd.  QH do a repair kit which is just the stat and O ring; about £6..
