Hi guys, good site.
Im thinking of purchasing a 1999 treg omega elite. 2.5 v6 auto. Its done 130k miles but has history, the belts were done at 103,000.
I am new to the vauxhall scene but kinda know what they are like as im a mechanic.
Anything to look for when going to look at it and are there any serious issues with these?

Hi Ben, check the door tops and bottom corners for rust. As it's a V6 check for leaking rocker covers too. :y

ah yeah ive heard about these rocker covers i take it they are easily visible, also because its auto is it easy to pull out the dipstick for the auto fluid? i just want to check that the oil isnt burnt, if it is im walking away

Far as I'm aware there is no dip stick for the auto box...

best of luck finding a g/box dipstick, as i found out it appears you dont need one so vx didnt supply one ;D but we know different ;)

Easiest way to check rocker covers is to pull a plug cap on the drivers side, if oil then gone.
Gearbox dipstick will be impossible to pull out as it doesn't have one! Stupid I know but thats VX for you ;D

No dipstick on the auto box mate, levels are checked by opening the filler plug on the side of the box.V6 engines are gen bullit proof but the cam belt kit must be changed every 40,000 or 4 years. Cam cover gaskets when they leak fill the plug wells with oil causing a missfire and poss dis pack failure. Oil coolers can fail causing oil to enter the cooling system so check for that in he coolant bottle and keep a 50% water/coolant mix at all times. H/g failure rare unless severe over heating has occured.

thankyou, thankyou at last somebody with a nice description. Thought it might have to be the old plug out and check the level.
Thanks for the tip of the rocker cover gasket will remember that one.
