Title: drives on its own
Post by: kingleonidaz on 12 February 2009, 22:38:58
Hi everyone its good to be part of the club.
could some pls help me with a problem i have a omega 2.5 v6 cdx with a manuel gear box.
I was just wondering if anyone knows why my car continues to gather speed when i change up a gear, even if i dont accelerate.
I thought it might have been the curse control, but it isnt cuz this happens when im travelling below 20mph.

My reply in the post that was 'mislaid' *cough* was alonmg the lines of either a bent throttle linkage on the end of the throttle bodies or a duff throttle cable/pedal.

I know my sons V6 jammed wide open recently (scary!!) and replacement of the throttle bodies (which were bent as a bent thing) has resolved it meantime....

that sounds like it going to cost well the revs are just idaling at about 500 or 600 and it will just todel along in 3 doing about 15mph or 9mph in second :-?

I had the surging issue with a new Signum last year - it turned out to be a clutch and flywheel problem both needing replacement - it is a bit different on the Signum diesel has you have a fancy and problematic flywheel but not sure on Omega as mine is an auto.

thanks that could cost me well im hoping its just the engine doing it on tick over as the revs dont go past 600 it drive fine i only noticed this week when i needed to crawl along in the snow but thanks for the help mate

er - can you be a little bit more descriptive of the issue you have?

is it that when you are crawling along in snow and change up then you find the car accelerates?  Say you are crawling in 2nd then change up to third, the revs gain from 500 to say 700???

If so this is normal - the ICV is kicking in to get engine speed up.  there is nothing wrong mine does it as well.

another test/ onservation - put it in first gear - no throttle, and let it climb a hill - it will just keep climbing - why?  the idle control valve opens up to maintain idle speed even though the engine load has increased

So to be clear, your drivin along in snow at tickover without touching the gas pedal, your changing the auto box gear manually, and wondering why the speed is altering according to the gear your selecting?

Original post says it's a 'manuel' gearbox .......  :y

Oh yes, so it does. In that case i dont understand the why the op is concerned? Is he worried why the revs increase  200 rpm without touching the pedal? Sounds normal to me. But then he should have got a normal auto box like us sensable people. :-)
