Title: Auto gearbox selector switch problem
Post by: Varche on 20 February 2009, 18:02:17
Calling unlucky Alf! (aka Tim)

For a while since I replaced my autobox I have had the flashing lights on the gearchange display syndrome. Haven't been too worried as I had a good switch on the old gearbox. Consulted the haynes book of lies and set too and changed them over.

First the good news.
- all the flashing of lights and difficulties with sometimes having no drive have gone.
- The gearchanges are a lot lot better. The performance is dare I say it CRISP. Something it hasn't been for a long long time.

I suspect the old selector switch had lost its adjustment. Reset the "new" one using a 2 mm drill as per haynes. Maybe that was also a problem on my old gearbox.

Now the bad news. :(

I can only start the car in park. No way will it start in neutral with foot on the brake. So what has changed apart from installing my old switch? Could my old switch have gone faulty?

I have the same on mine after fitting a replacement switch. If I select "N" and move the lever slightly it will start. I suspect yours, like mine, needs very minor adjustment, but I just live with it. :y
