Post by: omegav6est on 20 February 2009, 15:42:23
hi all i have a misfire on my mig 2.5 v6 p reg and i want to change the coil pack,i can just see the coil pack and it has a rectangle plug now i dont want to take the car off the road as it does still run ok and i want to get either a s/h coil or one off ebay but it would seem unless i take the old one off and read the number on it i might run into trouble, there seems to be so many different numbers, types etc,i thought as long as i got one for a 2.5 v6 with a rectangular plug i would be ok.is this not so.what with this job bieng so long winded if i take the old one off just to read the number on it it will then be off the road untill i find a good one to replace it with.any ideas

Not a long job mate, just awkward to get to the 4 bolts holding the dispac on...take off plenum and remove dispac preferrably leaving leads on...note number, bolt back on and put plenum back on...couple of hours tops but more like 1 if you have done before  :y

AFAIK there are 3 different packs used on the V6 :-

There are three part numbers listed for a 2.5

90444184 (Early Models) - fitted vertically
90511450 (Interim Models) - fitted horiz
90541062 (Later Models)  - fitted horiz
Last two differ in that it has either a square plug or an oval plug

If you have your engine/chassis number your Vx dealer should be able to provide you with the correct unit
