Replaced the battery last night, and sitting in front of the battery tray, loose, was this:
(notice the chewing gum packet for scale ;) )

Does anybody know what this is :-? :-?

It looks like a bearing seal
-
Ive never come across that in/on any of the omega's Ive had, unless its part of an engine component that I havent removed or stripped down,
:-/
-
Errr... Is that bad? Where could it have possibly come from?
You'll have to excuse my dimness ::)
-
It's more like a porsche 924/early VW bearing seal :-/
-
Definetely a seal, dont know if its from an Omega, but if it was missing from the engine I,m sure you would have known about it by now.
Most likely been discarded at some time by a mechanic or previous owner.
-
me thinks its been dropped in ther by accident, certainly nothing in the engine bay that would have that fitted to it.
-
Excellent :) :y :y :)
Cheers everyone... My mind is now at ease :)
-
That is a camshaft seal :y

That is a camshaft seal :y
Yep... Definitely a camshaft seal :y :y :y
Oh... And if it's come loose from your engine (Which is impossible!) then you'd most definitely know by the fact you'd be using as much oil as you are petrol ;D ;D ;D
-
Looks like camshaft seal. Sits just behind the cam timing pulley. No chance of it 'falling off', and if it did, you would know.
So dont worry about it.

Cheers again everyone :y :y
The cambelt kit was done last month, could it be a casualty from that?

Is there any chance its an exact or close fit for fitting over the positive terminal of the battery...found similar on one of the batteries I took off, blue one on the negative and red on the postive to colour code the terminals for those that simply cant read the + and - on the battery :y

I wondered that until I noticed the coil spring inside to maintain tension on the shaft it protects. Far too over-engineered for a terminal ident - definitely a shaft oil seal.
