Title: Oil Change
Post by: Loch View on 01 March 2009, 11:49:51
Did an oil and filter change yesterday and according to the owners manual it takes 4.5L to refill (incl filter)
Now I have filled it with 4.5 L but the level doesn't even come to Min. on the stick  :-/
The diff between min and max is 1L.
Is the data in the manual wrong?

Just wondered as the 2 piece sumps take a bit more oil than the 1 piece.

I wonder where the oil went  :-/ or...
the manual is wrong.
I guess driving around below level is not an option

On a 2.0, I just drain it all out, and fire a whole 5 litre can in there. Job done :y

Don't forget, although the engine capacity is 4.5 litres - if you've put a new filter in there - a fair bit of that 4.5 litres will go in the filter!

You'll probs find another half litre brings it correct...

I've got the 2.2 and the manual says 4.5 to, same as you I put in 4.5, and was just touching the bottom of the dipstick, I gave it another 15-20 mins to drain and is still took about another 3/4 of a litre, the levels been fince since, so i would say its normal!

In my personal experience (with filters):

4 pots - shade under 5l
v6 - around 5.5
2.5TD - little over 6l

I must say the car runs a lot smoother now  :)
The old oil looked as if it had been there for years

At least it doesn't cause a headache like wifebeater.
You didn't use a Stella bottle for the MV6 oil changes did you by any chance?
