oil ok, no smoke from exhaust, temp gauge works fine and fans come as normal  is this just normal usage ?

Check the easiest visual signs.

Check waterpump area and around Thermostat.

I wouldnt say 1000-1500 miles was normal to use that amount!

starting from easy..

coolant reservoir cap .. when the engine is hot and you stop it , listen it if it leaks you will hear ..

heater by pass valve behnd the engine..its very common..

oil cooler area under the plenum and inlet manifold (v valley)

heater matrix or its related connections.. (thats the hardest to repair)

as stated - thermostat area and water pump..

will check as suggested but theres never any drip marks on floor under car and had it on a ramp to do oil change and no water visible looking under engine to top, and engine runs fine.
cheers

1 pint in 1000-1500 miles wont be visible.. makes me think coolant cap at first..
