Title: is my car dead...

hi all
went out in my car last friday..did a few miles then it stopped for no reason..sat there for 20 min`s then it went again got me home bout 20 miles. no prob`s ..great..only came to go out the next day.. only got 2miles up the road same thing..had to push it home.it will turn over and somtimes start up..but it`s not happy..looked in oil cap.loads off mayo..its just done 227000 miles ..did the paper clip test just keeps flashing 9...

is that the end of life for the old dear.. :-[ :-[ :-[ :'(

mayo can be normal, esp on short trips.

Any on the dipstick?

anyway, sure there isnt a 1 and a 9 on the paperclip? - that would be the crank sensor which can cause symptoms exactly as you are suffering.

Crank sensor...£50 or so for new one fron Vaux and fittable yourself...

Do a paperclip test again...good chance it will be a code 19  :y

thanks gents..i may not be reading the test right(re-the paper clip)
just looks to me to do 1-2-1 x3 then 1-2-9-1-2-9 x5 on so on till the end..there is no mayo on dip stick..so could it be the crank sen has you have said...hope so i love me car..ps dont do short runs, not less then 120 miles a day to work and back ..

Is this on petrol or lpg (or both)?

start of codes should be indicated by
12 issued 3 times, then each fault code, repeated in 3's

as you seem to have 121 as a start code, not sure you have them right.

as mentioned before, is the dipstick covered in mayo as well?
does the header tank smell of anything other than antifreeze?

yes its on both lpg.and petrol..no mayo on dip stick..and tank is ok..

Well thats a positive, gotta get a definate on those codes then, and hope for a nice easy 19  :y

Recheck the code, 129 is egr related from memory.

it still comes out has being 1-2-1-2-1-2..9-1-2-9 but after 20mins my eyes went ,,so went to work will get the wife to look and shout it to me.may have better luck has i`am losing it,,, :o
