hi all,
i have just tried to start my 2.5 elite, all i intially got was 'click', ingnition off try again 'click', 5 tries later engine spins really well and fires perfectly - i drove a few miles, stopped for a short time, engine temp still warm but same happened again. i don't think it is battery as when it does start it spins really well, any thoughts gratefully received?

sounds def like starter motor and no doubt the solenoid :y

Sounds like it bud!
Have a look around first though - see if the starter motor is loose to the block.

check your terminals first and if they are all tight and clean its gonna be the moter!!

Before you condemn the starter motor check the positive battery terminal. Frequently the crimped connection where the wire to the starter and alternator meets the terminal can come loose. If the terminal gets hot when the engine is running this is a clear sign that the connection is not great.
Could also be negative terminal and its' connections to the chassis and engine block.
In addition, wiggle the gear selector next time it gives you hassle, or try starting in "N" instead of "P". There's a switch in series with the solenoid to prevent the car starting in gear. If this is on its' way out it could cause this type of symptom.
I can't recall many starter motor failures which suggests it's a pretty reliable device.
