Title: Diesel Fuel Filter.
Post by: Psychoca on 08 March 2009, 14:51:05
I have just realised that it has been a while since the fuel filter was changed, so I have got the new one to go in, just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on changing it,  or is it just a case of a strap wrench, fill the new filter with diesel and fit the new one???

Thanks.

My preferred way of changing it is:

* Disconnect the two electrical connector(s).
* Undo both fuel pipe banjos - taking care not to lose the copper washers (4 in total).
* Undo and remove both captive bolts that secure the filter-head casting to the inner wing.
* Then remove the complete assembly from the car.
* Grip the head in a vice, and unscrew the filter - best put a container below the vice to catch any dripping fuel.
* Before reassembly, check that the fuel heater is tight to the head.
* Fill the new filter with fresh fuel, and carefully screw it back on to the head. Don't go mad - just tighten it firmly.
* Carefully refit the assembly to the inner wing.
* Refit both pipes and electrical connector(s).
* Now restart the engine but don't touch the throttle - it'll run unevenly for a short while - but'll soon settle down.
* Check for leaks and wash-down the area with hot soapy water to disperse any spilt diesel.

* Job done in about 15 - 20 mins tops ..... !

my way
lean in engine bay and unscrew filter with one hand pull mounting up slightly to clear the pick up pioe and remove filterpull out old seal replace with new
fill new filter with diesel magic and diesel again pull mounting up and slip new filter on and screw up strat car and check for leaks
time taken 5 mins!!!! :y
