is it normal for the old diesel to smoke i seem to see quite a lot at night with another cars lights behind me it's only when getting upto speed :-?
-
using supermarket fuel? Try Shell of BP, diesels seam to be less smokey on decent fuel
-
does'nt seem to make any difference not that i've noticed anyway
-
A good service might help with this and a good blast down the motorway to clear all the rubbish out.

seeing it at night in other car headlights is not a problem!! perfectly normal with a diesel!!
its if you can see it in the rear view mirror during the day you should start to worry :y
-
you can see it in the day if you give it some beans and had a major service in november :-/
-
is that bad then? i dont mind it never caused any problems that i know of ,runs like a dream, when i start her a big puff of smoke pops out, the quicker she starts the less smoke i always do 2 turns of ignition 4 glow plugs as i think 1 is down and starts quicker in the morning, thanks :y

At night, normal.
Supermarket fuel does make it smoke an awful lot more than premium branded fuel.
If you are getting a decent puff when starting, I'm guessing its not starting immediately?
-
if its getting a puff when starting would think its unburnt fuel from the aforementioned glow plug ????

I don't know if it's any help but I have noticed the same thing with my daily drive (company car) which is a 56 plate 14TDCI Fiesta. Even if on tickover I notice it at night.
Mind you it has done 115,000miles in two years!
