Title: High pitched whistle - not kettle
Post by: oro on 11 March 2009, 18:23:27
Sorry should have given car spec - 2.5 petrol Auto reg 2000

Hi all,
First a big thank you for guiding me to starting problem - it was as informed, new starter motor, job done so back on the road.
BUT
Now I have a high pitched whistle each time I start, it only lasts 1-2mins then all is quiet till the next time I start, does it every time, everything else seems to work fine.
Any thoughts on the above would be gratefully received.
Thanks Mike

That will be the secondary air pump. Nothing to worry about (you can disconnect it if it really bothers you)

Yep, I've heard this done before with no issues.

Thanks all, that seems the way to go since there are no down sides!
I have looked through the maintenance section of the site and did not find any info on where the secondary air pump is, what it looks like or how to disable it.
If anyone knows, a link to the info would be great or general instructions.
Thanks Mike
