I just bought a miggy (2.5 V6) thats had the handbrake cable replaced recently..badly I think. Seems to need a lot of pull to lock the wheels, a lot more than my 2litre which was the original cable for the car.
But the problem I have is a squeal/whine when moving...mainly at low speed...it doesn't let up when braking and disappears at higher speed, say +35mph.
Could that be down to the dodgy handbrake cable installation? Or something more sinister? The car doesn't pull left or right.

Sorry to bump this, I won't do it again, but the reason I ask is because I need to drive to London tomorrow morning, a 170 mile trip.
Does anyone reckon a rubbing handbrake could be an overheat issue on a long journey? Need to know asap so I can get it addressed really. Thx!

Shouldn't be an issue, assuming its the shoes then it will 'self correct'!

It could be that the numpties have tried to adjust the handbrake by means of the rear adjusters only and that it is binding on one or both sides.
There is a maint guide as to how to do it properly.

Cool thats OK then...will get it down my mates pit when I get back. Now to find the blasted cruise switches on the old car to remove, and I can scrap the bugger!

Confirm it by gently applying the hand brake when moving slowly, if the noise changes then its the shoes rubbing.
Are the return springs present on both brakes? they run from the end of the cables to a hole in the backplate.
