Folks
After replacing my maf for a new pierburg original ( symptoms no power very poor mpg) the maf fault codes clear ok but when i put it into sport mode and try to drive it hard it gets to about 3.5 k then starts to chug as if its a fuel issue. foot off gas and its normal again. I had an inline filter for veggie ( but to cold for that so its removed) and the air and fuel filters are new and its been redxd etc and tank is full .
My mpg is around 22 mpg and i drive like miss daisys dad
, no fault code flag up no pipes missing that i know of..Could it be the autobox slipping under hi revs? ( well hi for me lol)
any comments appreciated.

mafs are normally reliable on tractor. How does it drive with MAF unplugged?
-
like really slow, i had to horse it to move compared to normal, the new maf definatelty makes a difference it pulls ok and idles well but just when you try to work it hard it jurks a bit till u ease off again but i usually drive with sports mode off as Im a stereotypical Scotsman so the poor consumption baffles me.
Rarely it may not change up if ive been driving for a couple of hours but selecting 3 then back sorts it . all sounds ok with the box . fluid was partially drained /topped up about 5 k ago.
Thanks
Phil

Sorry, not clear, is it better with MAF unplugged?
-
sorry no power is reduced

OK, I think you need to paperclip it (if its paperclippable - some are, some aren't) or get codes read...
-
hi
ive did that and it thru up 88/89 which relates to the maf i believe, but no other faults flagged since no eml lights etc but my inst mpg sits at 03/ 04 , on the old maf it showed up 0.1 is this significant??
cheers

the bmw engine rarely brings on eml, despite detecting faults.
if its still flagging maf, i'd be suspicious of that, hence just drive around with it unplugged so it puts calculated values in.
mine idles at 0.3gph in d and 0.2gph in n

your readings are not too far from mine now, maybe i will do another paperclip test .
Thanks for the reply

92 - normal
96 normal if egr disabled
34 - not good. might be worth checking chain hasn't jumped, or pump drastically moved. Not something I've done, but to check chains, sump and head have to come off according to the docs :o

oh dear , at the moment im getting 17 to the gallon so somethings gotta give..
Thanks again for your speedy reply?

make sure all the connectors to pump injection pump are secure, and that the connector from injector 4 is secure.
-
the fault code 34 never flagged till i replaced the maf for a new pierburg. ive unplugged and will see how it is and what it flags, ive contacted the maf supplier who wasnt sure this was relating to fault, but he suggested i check with a stealer and go on their recommendation .
cheers

Guys
As the paper clip test thru up 34 injector timing out of range!
My local diesel expert said the pumps on its way out , can anyone advise if its possible for the timing to shift as i certainly havent touched it, can this be adjusted ?? although a few weeks back i did an oil change but didnt touch pump.
Its an old 1998 car so a new injection pump is false economy, can anyone offer any advice here please as i dont want to get rid but ive did 3/5s of a tank and only covered 164 miles .and its crippling me financialy
Also any knowledgable members near Glasgow I wouild be more than willing to pay for their time.
Thanks
Phil :-/

just a thought but if the chain had jumped surely it would tick over like a bag of spanners :-/
-
ive read that but i honestly cant say ive noticed a dramatic increase in noise, to be fair ive usually got the radio on quite loud
Thanks

I thought that code reffered to the pietzo injector being at fault???
gives the wrong readings to the pump??
worth a try tho changing it i mean???

Hi I will certainly look at this can you or anyone else tell me were to look for it? what reading should a good one produce.
Ive posted this prob on a few sites and checking the value of the needle lift sensor has also been mentioned but agin im unsure of were this is would this be the sensor that sits below injector 4
Cheers
Phil
