i've got problem with my car...
drove it home from work on friday and it was fine.
i swapped my blue plenum for a new powder coated one that i have had done.
this is where my problem starts...
it now doesn't tick over after the initial warm up (auto choke i presume).
it shakes on low revs, and on high revs is emits black smoke.
It also seems to be using loads of petrol, even just trying to start it, you can just wtch the miles dissapearing on the display.
it also smells.
i've taken the powder coated plenum off and put my blue one back one, so it is back to how it was on friday.
but the problem is still there.
its not the plugsas i have taken them all off and checked them.
I also took it to the garage and put £30 of fuel in it thinking it may be that.
the car does drive okay after about 2000 revs, but on low revs it just cuts out, and doesn't look well at all.
any ideas??????????

I'm thinking dislodged/now missing seal between the plenum and the intake pipes beneath.....
-
or air leak in general..... Try cautious use of carb cleaner or brake cleaner squirted carefully around the various joints. Change in engine revs locates culprit area.... ;)

I have also thought that as it does seem to sound different around the plenum area.
all the 6 o rings are there, is there another seal??

Throttle butterflys, breather plastic 'o' rings, ICV rubber and anything else you need to swap over when changing plenums....
-
the butterflies, and o rings are okay, i even put some black sealant on the o rings, haven't thought about the ICV.
The car does seem to be running very very rich...

They might be there but are you sure one hasnt moved during refitting the plenum

i had the problem when i fitted they powder coated plenum, so took that one off and put the blue one back on, and still have the problem.
because i have put some black gasket sealant around the o rings, that wouldn't cause it would it???

Check all the connections to the plenum.
Pay attention to the brake servo pipe (look for damage along its length particularly the passenger side rear near where it passes over teh airon pipe joint).
Check ALL the plenum seals are there and ok (dont use sealet, its adds bugger all benefit!)
Check the breatehr bridge seals
Check all the vac pipes, make sure the right ones are connected up (i.e. not the auto box breather if an auto) and that none are damaged and plsit (check the large breather near the breather box on the back of the 1-3-5 bank for splits at its base).
Check the idle valve is secure and inserted fully into the plenum.
Check the idle valve feed pipe, make sure the tail from it is connected to the pressure regulator on the fuel rail and make sure its not damaged.
-
i've tried all these, took the plenum off again and checked all the breathers.
had to drive it to work this morning, to say its running rich is an understatement!!!
i used 100 miles worth of fuel doing 20 miles!!!
still won't tick over, an engine management light came on on high revs, then went off after about 2 or 3 secs.
the car still doesn't sound like it should.
help please???
this is really doing my head in.

all sorted.....
this is how stupid it was....
didn't even think to check this problem....
