Title: Bonnet release cable.
Post by: holtender on 16 March 2009, 16:34:36
I'm just trying to remove an old cable from my Omega.

Does anyone know how the black plastic surround which houses the cable at the catch end is removed from the car?

Is it srewed on or clipped on, very awkward to see and I don't want to snap anything.

Any suggestions please.

Do you mean the handle end? - or the end at the bonnet?

I believe the handle just fits between two plastic supports - and then the cable slots into the handle with a typical nipple set up. My bonnet catch was virtually inoperative and I pulled the handle off its moorings but it slotted back in OK. Couldn't work out how to improve its operation - seemed no way to get at the bonnet end since its all enclosed in that front metal cowling...

Yes the handle end is the problem, there is a black plastic brackett that the cable slides through and I cannot work out how it is removed from the car.

I cannot see a screw head, so I was wondering if it just clips off.

I am sure I have a spare in the garage, so if you want pics let me know. If I remember correctly, there is a black plastic bracket screwed to the bulkhead, then the handle itself clips into this, not easy to get at but do-able. ::)
