In the light of all the important questions on the forum I thought i'd mention this....to hear of your ideas ! In fairness I sorted it BUT it scared the crap out of me on Friday night.
Leaving work, I guess I half heartedly turned the key to start and must have released the key slightly as she was turning over.
All of a sudden she let out a huge "Bang", failing to start.
So I turned the key again and she roared in to life....for about half a second..then shook like an earthquake, hissed and grumbled then stalled. Tried again, same result. She made one hell of a noise. Sounded like she was about to explode.
Open the bonnet thinking to see oil splattered all over the place or the V6 missed a valve or two...Nothing. JUST was about to ring home to say I'd be late and that I was gonna have to call RAC out and I spied the problem and corrected it. She has been fine ever since.
What was the cause do you guys reckon. Never happened before and hopefully won't happen again ? Tis a little quiz..I know the answer.

HT lead had come off one of the plugs. Unburnt fuel causes big bang, lack of spark causes engine to run lumpy.
-
electrical plug came off air intake. ie. air flow meter or that area ? :-/
-
Nope...NOT on this occasion. Spookier than that !

dai522 is close !

I taut I taw a poody tat?? ;D
-
second go air intake pipe came off :y
-
Some LPG forums talk of major damage to the air intake in the region of the bagpipes in the event of a back fire .... ?????

Might help if i knew what I sorted huh...
I think its called the icav....held in to the plenum by way of the large rubber "bung", passenger side. The back fire shot it straight out, leaving it hanging.
Engine didn't like that very much it would appear. ?

OOOOHHHH The engine runs rough if that seal even leaks a bit .. so with the whole ICV missing !!!
Must have been a bang to blow THAT out .. but it is only a push fit IIRC

The rubber collar it's held in by is bolted to the plenum though.

He he he ..Yes Entwood. The Unit opposite cleans and looks after exotic cars for the rich and famous, working on Lambo's and Ferrari's all day.
Even they came out to take a look.....short term it made even my car sound like a competitor....well until it chugged and banged itself to a stall. I was crapping myself.
In my case it isn't bolted at all...Just push fitted. Guess its just as well...heck knows what such a back fire would have done if the bung hadn't shot out to remove the pressure. ???
