I have a knocking noise coming from the engine, a few times it has been louder when cold and reduced after 10-30 sec or something... Even when warm, there's a slight rattle from the engine.
It could be a sticky lifter, but how can I be sure it's not the exhaust manifold gasket? Seems to be on the left side of engine (drivers side in UK). Power and MPG ok, no EML, just the knocking noise.

best way to test the exhaust mainfold for leak
is to block the exhaust up while its running
or put a long screw driver onto the manifold and put it to your ear
yes it does work you can here everything
other way it water or wd40 on the part where you think it leaking
there is a way with a smoke bomb
putting it in the exhaust and blocking the exhaust off and waiting for the smoke to fill the exhaust
hope thats of any help mate

Thanks for your quick answer, will try to block the exhaust and find out if it smokes... Hoping for the best...it's a lifter, expecting the worst...it's the gasket...
