Title: Front Discs
Post by: Eighth_dwarf on 18 March 2009, 15:13:29
Well finally got round to replacing the wear sensors n the front pads when I noticed the the  pads were waering a lot on the top. It was wearing a deeper grove about a cm across the top of the pad. Stripped it all off to see what was going on and it's actually the discs. They are starting to rust under the nice shiney metal surface and it's delanminating and flaking off around the edges leaving a raised rusted surface.

Anyone know the best place for discs and pads then?!

You can go to some of the places such as Partco for these but, as Andy B suggests, go to Vauxhall ! You will be amazed at the price even without a Trade Club card. I went to buy pads from Vauxhall and they said that to buy pads & discs separately would cost approx £140 in total, BUT, if you buy the pads & discs together as a kit, they would be only about £90 !!

I can't say that all aftermarket parts are cr4p, but the last aftermarket discs I bought - for my 12v Senator - were OK for the first 3/4000 miles after which they ran out of true. And yes I 'clocked' them with a DTI.  :y

Get VX, I returned my Mintex pads because they didn't fit in the caliper housing properly, genuine parts slotted straight in.

Yep I'll be looking at new discs and pads very soon, I think genuine will be the way to go for me.
Not got any gripes about aftermarket bits, but I think with me and keeping the estate for a while, and lugging a 1450kg caravan around now and again it's best to fit the best.
