Soon I'll need to change the oil.
The oil used previously was Valvoline Durablend 5w 40.
But I'm thinking of using Shell Helix Ultra 5w 40.
Guys what oils are you using for your Omegas??????
If anyone can reccomend any different oil please do.

Vauxhall is still German made, they just slap a different badge on for us! 8-)

Does Opel Croatia do Semi synth? (or full synth - which sounds like what you have been using).
-
Actually I have no idea what is Opel genuine oil.
The previous owner of my car used Valvoline Durablend full synt.
I'm also thinking of using full synthetic oil because it's much better than semi synthetic. But I was thinking of changing the manufacturer of the oil. Shell is some 10 pounds cheaper than Valvoline for the 4 liter pack

GM oil is 10/40 Semi Syth.
Surely Open dealers near you would sell that? I have bought some from my local Vauxhall dealer and the writing on the bottle has all been in russian! ;D

There are those more in the know than me ..... ::) but I'd say fully synthetic was too 'thin' for for your car. :-/
-
Andy B why do you think it's too thin for my car?
Elaborate a little please
-
40 base oil should not be to thin Andy....

I'd normally associate fully synthetic oil with high performance, high reving modern engines. A 2.2 4 Omega engine .... isn't. ;) ;) ;) :y

:y :y :y I said someone in the know would put me right ...... but Id' still use semi skimmed ;D :y

Synthetic, Semi-Synth or Mineral has NOTHING to do with 'thin-ness'.
It is the base technology of the oil, 10w/40 is 10w/40 regardless of whether it's fully synth or not.
Fully synth is preferred because of it's beneficial characteristics (longetivity, acceptance of additive pack etc etc.) but semi synth is just as good if it's being changed according to schedule anyway.
Cheers,
James

I know ;), but the 5W30 10W40 & 15W40 of fully sythetic semi-synthetic & mineral is. :y

Maybe I'm being abit 'fick' :-[, but I've seen other posts recommending "genuine VX oil" here.
Surely that oil is manufactured by Shell/Mobile etc and Vx slap a sticker on it? ::) and as long as you use a good brand and the consistancy that Vx recommend? :-/
I need to change mine soon so any advice/education appreciated :)

One of the most obvious reasons for recomending Vx's own is due to the cost if bought using a Trade Club card. It's almost always on a 4 for the price of 3 offer which makes it around a tenner a gallon! :y :y :y
-
Aaah! But if you havn't got a trade card..... :-/
Does anyone know who produces Vx oil? ::)
