I notice that the coolant level in the tank has started to go down slowly over the last few weeks , I cant see a leak. I had the head replced 1 year ago after belt broke, been going fine since. Drives fine but concerned head might be leaking. Should the head be tightend again.

No need to keep re-torqueing head bolts these days with the use of stretch bolts.
Sorry .... no idea on where your coolant is going. :-/ :y

Have you looked under the car when the engine is running and looked for any water drpping off the bottom of the gearbox bell housing??

Hi boys, THanks for the help, did`nt realise the plugs would go white, one does look quite clean, local garage is going to do a block test tomorrow to test head integrity, anybody know what this is and whether its effective or not?.I refilled the bottle today and took car out. When I got back the bottle was empty, when I removed the cap the coolant just gushed back into the bottle again.Tickover is also lumpy. Is this related?.

How is the oil looking, and is there any mayo in the oil filler cap?
-
Hi Boys,
Changed the rocker cover seals today as there was a lot of oil in the plug wells, thought that might be causing lumpy tickover but there was little or no Mayo in the cam box only a bit in the brthr pipes.Car still runs super but tickover lumpy when hot.

Do you have loads and loads of steam coming out of the exhaust and water. If not I doubt its your head gasket as you state your oil is clean. If its not in the oil and aint coming out of the exhaust as steam (to a point where you cant see anything behind the car) than its not the hg.
More likely to be a major leak somewhere that only does it under presure. More likely to he hbv as previosly stated or water pump!!

If you have driven for some time with the plugs immersed in oil you may well have damaged the ends of the plug leads and/or the DIS pack :(
I'd check the plug leads very thoroughly for any signs of perishing rubber before doing anything more expensive.

THanks for the help but all to no avail No4 pot full of water. The garage did a test by putting a tube device in the top of the water bottle with the engine running and the gasses from the bottle turned the liquid in the tube green which indicates that gas is leaking into the water space ergo! HG gone, so off with its head!!!!.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
