Title: Oil and Mayo....!!!
Post by: troyboy on 24 March 2009, 17:49:33
Hi all,

I've just bought a T reg. 2.5 CDX,  very impressed with it, but it looks like it's blowing oil out from the right hand side as you look at the engine (possibly rocker box gasket), plus the head gasket might have gone as there is white sediment (mayo) on the oil filler cap.. would I be right in thinking so...???

Quote from RobG - "Mayo" on filler normal on V6 due to short trips, needs a few blasts and then get the oil changed every 4-5K

Has anyone else had this type of 'oil flow'..

all tips welcome...  :) :) :) :y

How much mayo? I found a bit of mayo on my filler cap all the time after short journeys. AFAIK this is normal as engine not hot enough to get rid of condensation. I found switching to genuine Vx oil has helped. :y

More than likely. Have you checked the plug wells for oil, sure sign of camcover gasket failure and leads to plugleads and dispack getting breaked

Oil leak is more than likely to be cam cover gaskets. I would replace them both and give the breathers a good clean. Tha mayo on the filler cap is probably because of the car being used for short journeys. Change the oil and filter after cleaning the breathers and use genuine Vauxhall oil ;)

Clean as much of the creamy oil from filler neck.Do a full oil and filter change with GM oil/filter from local dealer(not much more than £25=00)on a Trade Card even less.
Try giving the car a decent trip once a week as problem is condensation forms in the long filler neck and a lot of cheap oils are that good for the Omega system.
It is VERY unlikely that the HG has an issue as mayo is just a symptom of short journeys when the engine does not get fully hot.

Thanks for all your advice..  :y
I'll change the cam cover gaskets, as there is alot of oil down the right side of the engine, and let you know how I got on. :)

Many thanks

Use genuine Vx cam cover gaskets plus Black sealant (part nº 90485251) - pattern jobs will leak in a short time!!

Clean breathers first as blocked breathers is the normal cause of leaky cam cover gaskets ;)

Howtos in maintenance section :y
