Title: A Big thanks to Sassanach
Post by: VXL V6 on 17 November 2007, 17:48:42
I just wanted to say a public thanks to Sassanach for changing the transmission fluid on my car today, got this done as a precaution really as the fluid was the original (62K) and it was time for a change. The gearchange is a lot smoother as a result.

Anyway, a very knowledgeable chap who I reckon could dismantle and reassemble an autobox with his eyes closed! So thank you for sorting it out and showing me how it's done. I reckon I could even attempt it myself now i've seen it done, however, having the car 6ft up in the air is a definate advantage I don't have the luxury of here!!!!

Cheers Mate  :y

PS. Definately inspired by the neat LPG install on the Saloon........ got me thinking now!!!!

Yup, he certainly does know his autoboxes. And the rest of the car as well :)

I really must do the ATF in the MV6, but I daren't remove the sump as I'm dreading finding bits of washer!

Something i keep thinking about getting done......nearly 110k miles on original atf.....and used as a taxi for the last 70k.....it must be a bit knackered by now the atf.

But my local garage i use......doesnt want to touch it.....ie boss reckons if it aint broke.....dont do anything......i see some logic in this.....as i have seen a few posts when atf has been changed the g/b either develops probs or fails completely  :-/

Interested to hear Sassanach's opinion on this??

BTW theres nothing wrong with my g/b.

it wasn,t that long ago when changing the atf was standard servicing and on a lot of cars it still is.btw if it aint broke don,t fix it is the way it should be then why do you change your engine oil? :)

Ditto for clutch/brake fluid, but a lot of manufacturers are starting to use sealed units.
