Car has been driving smoothly and went to the supermarket today evening, when i got into the car, it was reluctant to start then bham! orange light came on .
Have tried switching on/off the car a few times,but the light stays on, my car is a 2.2 so nopaper clips test.
How easy is it to replace a crank sensor and how much does one cost with a trade club? Is there any harm to the car if idrive it?
Is there any member in the herts area with a code reader? I don't want to be robbed by the stealers!

in the mean time, which light is it? Car spanner symbol or engine symbol?

it is the EML, the car is running in limp mode sometimes.

Been driving the who day and the EML has not appeared today at all.Car drives like new and all is well. I am still not happy as i need to understand why the EML was on yesterday. Any ideas anyone.
One thing i did unusual this week is that i did put a half tank of leaded petrol and then a few days later did fill her up with unleaded petrol. Can this cause any problem.
I suppose a tech II is the only way out of my misery >:(

leaded petrol?? do modern cars even run on leaded??? Apart from being really hard to get hold of lol

shell either call it premium unleaded or leaded, not sure, but it is normally slightly more expensive than unleaded...

I had my crank sensor done not so long ago and it cost me £242 at a local garage. That included the diagnostic to source the problem.
The symptoms I had were...
Full engine cut out at random times (even whilst on a motorway at 80mph)
Trouble restarting the engine.
EML flickering on and then staying on
I'm sure it could be done cheaper by someone who knows a man and if you can get it diagnosed elsewhere than a garage, then you'll save a fortune. Good luck! :y

How much :o, you should have done it yourself mate, there's even a how 2 guide on here. Just had to replace mine after changing my head gaskets, oil cooler and cam belt. Genuine VX part cost me £57 from my local dealership, it took me about 10 minutes all in to fit and it was diagnosed with the paperclip test.

How much?? Christ, if i'd have known that i'd definitely have asked on here first! I'll chalk that one up to experience. Next time i'll check here before I do anything :-[
