Title: MV6 or Elite
Post by: AndyVXR300 on 29 March 2009, 13:05:17
I'm seriously going to look to upgrade from my 2.5 CDX facelift soon to either an MV6 or a Elite facelift but cant make my mind up which route to take and need some help.

My want list would be in silver if poss, saloon with Auto box and leather a must, engine size anything 2.5 upwards as insurance and fuel not an issue.

I need to sell mine to help finance this project first as i know i will have to spend to get the right car so if anyone would be interested in a very nice clean V6 CDX auto 97,000 FSH recently replaced cam sensor clear side indicators, Camblelt and tensioners replaced along with the waterpump aux belts and a full service 10 miles ago and soon to have 12 mths mot in May let me know.

I'm looking to change at the end of May so i'm in no rush as yet but just need some good advice... :y

Car will be at the Reading meet on 04/04 weekend

It depends on personal preference really.
I have a mv6, which is the sportier of the 2, recaros, stiffer suspension, etc.
The elite i am led to believe is the more sensible of the 2, ie, sat nav, leather but not recaro.

One a facelift the MV6 is technically a down grade as it does not have as many toys as the CDX.

I would go for Elite, you can always stiffen the suspension later

I personally have an MV6, which I have put quiet a few Elite bits onto...
I would say if you like the toys go for an Elite :y

I think my MV6 is already at Elite level with exception of memory seats (not available with Sports leather) ::)

Thanks for the PM's guys (cant believe the interest) but i will be only looking to sell at the end of May, i paid £800 for it in Febuary and has no expense spared on it to bring it upto my standard inc the recent service and cambelt etc.

It has a small blemish on the rear bumber but other then that it is very clean and tidy with no rust at all the whole car has also recently been buffed from top to bottom and shines like new, yes im fussy and like to look after my cars........ lol

i think you'll have decided for yourself which your going to have but if you really must have toys then get the elite as it still shifts or go mv6 if you dont mind adding bits that you really want later.
imo go for 3.0 if you can afford to run it with ins and fuel costs

i had this choice, same year of cars, both manual, both with LSD's,  right down to the same colour.

i went for the elite, the toys over the MV6 are fantastic and the elite was lowered already. the mv6 was the newer 3.2 but it wasnt enough for me to choose it.

I looked at at both although the MV6 had great handling, the elite in my opinion was the better option as you get all the toys and luxurys and can upgrade the suspension etc at a latter date ( I am in this process now) The MV6 was really disappointing on the interior and options in my opinion. This is bearing in mind that it is a luxury executive car. I am sure others will argue the other way  :)

I would describe the MV6 more as a sporting saloon than a luxury executive car to be honest......

I prefere the Carbon look dash and stiffer lowered Suspension on the MV6.

Also the wheels and interior.

Hence my Choice  ;)

All of which can easily be swapped into an elite if required...a lot easier than swapping stereo and electrics from an elite into an MV6 :y

Decisions, decisions. I may as well add my two pence worth as i've been in your position. I test drove the MV6 and the Elite in both the 2.6 and 3.0 engines. I have to say that there is a case for both and it comes down to personal preference. I loved the MV6 but the Elite won me over purely for the extras. The Bose stereo, the memory seats etc etc. and like Tunnie said, you can always stiffen the suspension up at a later date on an Elite if you want to. The one thing that I will say though, is go for the 3.0 if you have no problem with funding the insurance and fuel costs, it is much more gutsy than the 2.6 (sorry to all you 2.6 owners, just my opinion). Test drive them all and make your own mind up. Good luck mate!  :y

I know decisions decisions, i ve been there with fast hatches and saloons in my Cosworth days and hard suspension and the like are not a prority now  :) i prefer the luxury element nowadays and hence i'm directed to the elite.

I should have brought an elite from the start but wanted to try out the omega before commiting myself in depth and regretting it, i have the CDX model now in 2.5 guise and its pretty loaded as standard in all honesty.

The only extras i can work out the elite has over this model is

Better alloys

Bose sound system

Electric rear blind

Memory seats

Leather interior

Im sure there may be a few more bits......

Roll on the end of May :y

the one thing that really, really puts me off larger engined elites is those god awful leather seats fitted.  MV6's seat, be it cloth or leather, are comfortable, and look good imho.  Std leather seats aren't that comfy, and always seem to look their age.  Elite cloth is comfy though...

'In your considered opinion .....' It must be the way you sit  ;), the only gripe I have is that I'd like to be able to make them go that bit lower.

Yes, absolutely, my own opinion :y

In an Elite, given a choice, I would really, really want cloth (to the point of retro fitting it!)

For sports seats, as in MV6, I have no real preference...

I am of the same opinion. Test drove a few Elites with leather and found there's no lateral support at all. Then tried an MV6 with cloth interior and - well, the rest is history.

The rest is down to toys. Personally, I find the MV6 has all the toys I need. I have never felt the desire for a sunroof let alone all the other gadgets on an Elite. Bose system is nice but you've got to bin it before any further upgrades if you don't like it the way it is. Sat nav might be nice for convenience but 100 quid's worth of Tom Tom does the job on the rare occasions that it's needed.

Just a personal opinion but that's why cars come in different trim specs. TBH, I think it's nice that the Omega comes with the full fat engine option without all the bells and whistles.

MV6 would be more compelling for me as a manual, but that's another debate.. ::)

I'm with Vauxmad, I don't think you'll have any problem shifting it. You may have to take a bit less than you want though as in the present climate it's a buyers market. Again, as I said before, it all comes down to personal preference, try them all and see what suits you best. Good luck and keep us informed what you settle on  :y
