Hi,
During the recent heavy snow I discovered how useless the Omega is. Climbing a long hill in a blizzard it just would not grip (snow mode on or off) so there was a lot of wheel spin. After about 10 minutes an Auto Transmission error appeared on the display. I stopped the engine for around 15 mins and when I restarted the error had gone. Since then however, during normal driving there is a bit of a thump changing from 1st to 2nd but it does go. No probs in any other gears or changing down. Any ideas guys?

Cooked the fluid.
First, check the level and if (probably) required a top up, then seriously consider a fluid drain, filter clean and refill. Check through the maintenance guides for various howtoos....

Do it asap too, you don't wanna damage the box!

As above and consider next time in snow turn off T.C.
What you could try as a no cost test is to disconnect the battery and lock the POS-NEG terminals together for about an hour and this will allow the ECU's to return to default,any stored errors should go at that.

just to confirm, thumping is a fairly sure sign the auto box fluid needs changing. Anything from 60k on and you really need to be no your second lot of Dexron 3 and clean or renew filter. Slipping however, is said to be game over afaik. So change it pronto. Hth

I got my previous ATF/filter changed every 40k miles.
Never any problems either, and I towed a caravan.

Car now has a massive 204k miles, I've had it since about 140k and apart from some minor probs its been magic. Must admit i've never topped up or changed the ATF. Gear change is only a gentle thud, no slip, no noise so might be lucky. Incidentally, TC was off at the time. Anyway - ATF change and crossed fingers ;-)

Hope you don't mind me fetching you're thread back BC?
I have the same problem changing from 1st to 2nd although not all the time, have had the ATF changed a few weeks back (fingers crossed he used the right fluid)
Any how next on my list is to try the reset with the leads but any time in the past my battery was disconnected the car alarm went nuts, how do I stop it doing that?
If that procedure then fails to work, what options do I have left?

Disconnecting battery is unlikely to 'reset' or 'clear' the gearbox ecu.
But if you want to try, disconnect battery within 15s of ign going off.

I'll admit I know nothing about cars, what would be next - new gearbox?
Would a gearbox update help?? :-/

Possibly worth reading gearbox codes in case its a nice simple electrical type fault rather than mechanical, though these normally bring up warning on display...

The autobox program update is highly recommended, the difference in smoothness was significant! I had a thump in box when changing from 3rd to 4th and it disappeared with the new program.
However, now it needs to have an oil change... More messy than difficult I suppose...

How do you do that? Flush it with fresh oil? More mess :D

Put the key in position I,that will stop the alarm.
