What's with that? Zero feedback seller and selling a 2006 car with 7,800 miles for £5,500. I smell something fishy. :o :o :o
-
Me to but, its bloody tempting.

Me to but, its bloody tempting.
It looks like a cracker but I can't help remembering the phrase that goes, 'If a deal seems too good to be true then it ... ... ... ...' :-/
-

-
ABSOLUTE scammer
he has a skyline listed too
-
No tax, Mot, service history or V5 if the auction's to be believed, I wonder if there's anyone close handy to go and have a gander.....

Don't worry, just found it. :y
And I'm sure that those pictures weren't taken in Plymouth. Not Plymouth, Devon anyway. ::)

Theres a lot of palm trees about in the picture of the Skyline :-?
as stupid as it sounds plymouth does have a lot of palm trees, but the style of houses tell me that it isn't plymouth in the skyline pics....
the Monaro ones on the other hand i think i know where that is, and its not a million miles from my house

you should go visit, and take £5500 just incase its genuine cut and shut!! :y

He's dead now, so if he's selling cars, be very suspicious!!
-
Current bid £6000.00 - Still cheap if genuine.
-
I see that the Skyline isn't listed any more. :-/
-
i wouldn't trust it, a monaro for £6000, its just to cheap.
it could be cheap because he needs to sell it to go abroad so he might need to sell it urgently, so he puts it cheap to make it go A.S.A.P!
Jamie
:) ;) 8-) :y

You could put it through a normal auction and sell it faster and probably for more only problem is buyers can see it.

but saying he'll accept £5,500? if he said £15,000 it would have sold immediately on trader
dodgy as hell

could quite easily have stole all those photos off a genuine advert that probably expired
(he'd go for an expired ad because the original seller is less likely to look for that car)

MMMMmmmmm........................ :-/, would'nt make sense to do that, as when you go to collect and pay by bankers draft :y, you'll obviously spot any issues with the car?
-
yeah i suppose
cloned car then

Why would someone buy this car brand new and sell it only 4 months later? :-?
And if you know who it was....give me their number.....they've obviously got money to throw away! ;)
-
The vehicle is taxed and not due until 1/03/2008 :y

This is unreal, what is wrong with it, it dont add up. We all know what type of money this car commands
:-/ :-/ :-/
-
It has to be either a big white elephant or the Bargain of the year ::)
-
Perhaps it is as simple as low start = lower listing fees?
-
he could have done that without stupidly saying he'd take £5500 for it
alone by stating that, makes it scream dodgy
-
Perhaps it is as simple as low start = lower listing fees?
Cannot be, he states he would take 5500 for it.
-
This is what I think.
He does own the car, its not a write off and he is going abroad and all is genuine.
I think its on HP, so he sells the car taking the cash and clears off abroad and stops the payments. the new owner wont know anything about it until the is car repossessed in a few months :'(
-
wont let me see the car :'( and i have the cash as well....
i was going to take a friend 'in the business' (not motor) to have a look
gutted :'(

Unusual not leeting you see the car?, I done an HPI check on it this morning and no credit against the car ::), changed plates though July 07.

:'( :'(. My fingers did'nt click the confirm button quick enough, just lost it by seconds :'( :'(

Would you have won it?
-
Why bid up to 12k, when it had a BIN of £5.5k?
Surely just make the offer and go get it??
Something V fishy about that, with a car of that nature, you would ENCOURAGE viewings to genuine bidders!
-
That is a scam, fair and simple. The fact that the bloke has no history, the suspicious 'business' account etc. It won't even be his car to sell. I'm sure he will kindly offer to transport the car to your home as well....after he's taken your money. Can't believe some of you lot could be so gullible.
Might be worth a cheeky email to to winning bidder though just to see what's been said.

from private to original reg?
-
Would you have won it?
I think yes, it would've been down to second or on who had put the highest bid in, I put in 12k when it was at £10,100 around 1.10p.m., which was fine until the last minute, when I went to up the bid in the last 25/20 seconds the cofnirm button did'nt work, had to click again and by that time it had already gone :-/

i think the 3 of you should go down if its not too much of an inconvenience, be checking Vin plates all over it and everything!
seems odd for the winner not to part with his cash for a car worth over £3000 more if it's genuine!
-

am i way out with a £16,000 estimate for the second hand ones? thought i'd seen some at that price, i am aware its a 6.0 V8, maybe i've looked at wrong ones!
-
I think 12,300 is a good price, what do you lot think? :-/
-

if its a genuine sale, an absolute bargain!
its the legitimacy of the sale that's questionable at the moment, since his ad stated he would take £5,500 for it
-
I would only touch that, at any price, if I was at the registered keeper's address, siiting in his living room having a cup of tea following a satisfactory test drive and with an HPI report in my hand.
I'm sorry, he may be perfectly genuine, but there's enough in that ad to make folk smell a rat that he's got to expect nothing less than the above, if genuine.
Kevin

I've already done an HPI check, all looks legit, just need the V5 number to complete the check though. No outstanding finance or that against the car.

as said by myself, a cloned stolen car will show up clear on HPI, being that the details would correspond to a legitimate car somewhere else!
-
Well he has not replied to my query from yesterday and has now removed the second chance offer :-/, just does'nt make sense ::)

I think a phone call to the relevant authorities may be in order - sounds like it could be cloned

Recieved a reply to my email, to the winning bidder:
"This listing is a con, he doesnt own the car! I received an email from someone who knows the real owner and I saw the advert on www.autotrader.co.uk.
eBay were told about this on Weds before I won the car on Thurs. I have contacted them since and they still havent done anything. You are the fith person to be offered a second chance offer. I even called th police but they cant act until someone actually loses their money. Sorry to disappoint, 'if it ooks too good to be true.....'. Chris"

i love that, the police cant act unless someone actually loses money
but you hear all the time of people getting done for "attmepted" theft, "attempted" deception, "going equipped" to burgle for having gloves and tools in their vans!
if the real owner got in contact with the police stating that a complete stranger is attempting to sell "his" car, then surely the police should at least be able to pay the scammer a visit and at least make him aware that they know what's going on??
preventative crimefighting??

Heres a response I got, late yesterday to my e-mail from the bloke ::)
Hello Mike, right now I am into a business trip in Greece, I own a small business there with my brother. The reason that the winner doesn't want the car is that he wants to do this deal on trust. He wants me to ship the car and then to receive the payment and that's impossible for me. I told him that we are going to do this via eBay - more exactly eBay Purchase Protection Plan since I am not in UK and he doesn't want to it this way. He wants a deal outside eBay and that's a violation of their policy.. eBay Purchase protection Plan is working like this : the buyer makes the payment to eBay Motors Representative and they will keep him the money until he receives the product, and if he is satisfied with it, he must notify eBay to release the payment to the seller.
Thanks and if you want to do this deal, please let me know!
I DON'T THINK SO >:( >:(

Tell him that you are happy to do the deal in Ebay but you want to come and have a look at the car first. He can't complain at that can he?

he should have stated in his ad that the car wasnt in the uk

I've been watching the progress of this one with interest.
I know no-one on this forum would end up falling for such an obvious scam, but I really do suspect that some of you wanted to believe that it might have been a genuine altruistic gesture by a philanthropic rich boy.
I'm not trying to be rude or clever, but this crook will make money time and again with deals like this because of our human weakness to want to get 'something for nothing'.
I've seen many questionable deals like this on ebay and have always closed my eyes immediately without attempting to investigate. The only safe course in my opinion!

agreed, tho it seems our members have dug as deep as possible and not risked any money
not even attempting to investigate is obviously definately the safest way, but had it been a genuine bargain (unlikely but not unheard of) then people who do investigate can get lucky! :y
-
I agree! But I suffer from the additional weakness of not always being able to stick to my own principles, so opt to play safe. ;D ;D
