I'm getting some steering wheel wobble at speeds of around 40 to 60 mph which is quite bad when the car is cold first thing but after about 5 minutes it gets quite a bit better, its still there but not as bad.
I have had all four wheels checked for balance and the 2 fronts where spot on and both rears where out slightly but have been rebalanced, this did not make any difference.
Could it be the idler arm.
Any thoughts.

What you thinking, bottom arms maybe.

usually wishbones very common fault (dont i rather know it!)

Sounds similiar to mine , under braking , only some of the time I am getting steering judder , then a mile down the road same speed , I break no judder ? I haven't got to the bottom of mine yet , I will try and find out what is causing it and post on here . Loo Knee & Pete seem to think Wishbone bushes ?

had same problem with my w reg facelift turned out to be warped front discs

I know these do eat brake discs but in this case I'm not getting vibration under braking as I've had plenty of migs with dodgy discs and know what it feels like.
I think I might try changing the bottom arms as a starting point.

Right I've decided to go for changing the bottom arms, is it worth paying the extra for them from dealer or will aftermarket ones be ok.

They are 230 a side from the dealer!
Where the wheels balanced on a 5 stud balancer or a cone balancer? 5 stud cured mine. Cone balancer always in balance. They where not in balance when on the 5 stud.
If brakes judder all the time its usually brakes.
Intermittent judder usually wishbone bushes.
Its worth changing them anyway imho. They are rarely in good nic due to age alone.
