Title: EML light on (Y26SE)
Post by: Tiefer on 24 March 2009, 19:32:11
Hi,

Some days ago the eml light of my 2001 Y26SE switched on, I drived till my local GM dealer and the tech2 gave 2 codes that I don’t remember, but the message was something like ‘faulty fuel supply bank 1’ and the same for the bank 2, they reset them and told me to drive some days to see if the fault occurred again. The light switched on again next day, I unplugged the battery, the light switched off but the car started rattling for some seconds, after that everything was ok and some days or miles after, the light again, so, I searched in the forum for possible causes and I found that it could be de maf cos the engine runs fine, the idle is ok, only sometimes it stops at 1500, 2000 rpm, I put 1st gear and move the car a bit and then, they drop to 650..

So, I bought one of these cheap mafs from Ebay (crap?), I fitted it and the idle is ok but when I push the gas pedal, the car rattles till 3000 rpm, it seems to be running with rich mixture.. I have fitted the old (Bosch) maf again, the car runs fine but the eml light is on again after 2 or 3 hours driving.

The fuel filter has 12000 miles aprox (I don’t think it’s the problem but I will change it in the next service), the air intake pipes seems to be ok, I will change the air filter tomorrow (I tried the new maf without air filter and the engine didn’t go well) so… I am thinking in buying a new and genuine GM maf (or one remanufactured).

Unplugging the new maf the car reved ok, but I didn’t get any eml light, maybe the ecu needs 3 faulty readings? I have read something in the forum..

I will try to get the codes tomorrow, pin 6 to ground I think..

Thanks and sorry for my English (I missed some lessons lol)

Hi,

How easy!! Thanks Welung666...

I have just checked the codes and the winners are...

P0170 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
P0173 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 2)
P0100 Mass or volume air flow circuit high input
P0100 Mass or volume air flow circuit low input
P0100 Mass or volume air flow circuit range/performanceProblem

This 100 code could be cos the engine is not running?

Then..... could be the maf?

Thanks again

Hi,

Well, I replaced the maf with the Bosch one on Sunday and the problem has gone, no eml, no rattles...the engine runs fine again!

Thanks for all

Sergio

Ouch, I paid sub 30 quid deliver for a new MAF element.

Sadly the 2.6 and 3.2 MAF sensors seem to be much less reliable than the earlier 2.5 and 3.0 ones.

was it Albatross ? Somebody on here paid £30 odd for a maf and it was fairly useless, had to get another one. Dont think the maker or outlet was mentioned. Where did you get yours?
