Title: Engine Stop
Post by: polilara on 08 April 2009, 21:26:16
Hello
I have Omega 2001 Elegance with V6 engine Y26SE and with automatic gearbox. I realized recently that when I brake with motor e.g. when appoachin traffig lights the rpm. meter start to jump between 0 and 1000 rpm. Often after this the engine stops and it is very difficult to start again. Perhaps it is the crank sensor, but it is difficult to check as the pin No. 6 does not exist anymore in these "newer" models. Earlier the only the paper clip was required.

Do you have any tips for this.

regards Polilara

See the thread in Paperclip and Pedal Trick in Maintenence Guides section to read the fault codes.  Codes can be flashed out on 2.6 and 3.2 engines

Hello, The figure concerning te paper clip idea illustrates the pin No. 6 connexted to earth. That is clear for me from older models but this pin No. 6 really does not exist anymore. There is not a connector but just an empty hole. In 4 and 5 there is a pin, both (I quess) are earth.

How to check gearbos oil level? In these newer models there is not anymore a "stick". The level is controlled with a sensor.

No, read the 'pedal trick' part of that guide that is for 2.6/3.2. Not the paperclip part that is for 2.0/2.5/3.0

Hello again

Code was blinked; 10 3 3 5 so the crank sensor is most propably soon in the end of its life. I change it today.

One thing I  am wondering. Why does the engine not start while crank sensor has malfunktion ? I rememer that in my Vectra having Simtec 5.6.5 the engine still started even the crank sensor was broken as the system was controlled by cam sensor and vice versa.

just change the crank sensor, that is the crank sensor code, and go from there.
From experience here you "may" need to check the crank sensor connector is correct when ordering. There are 2 possible types for the 3.2 engine.
Not sure if the 2.6 has the same options? Anyone?

Hello

I took the crank sensor away and went to a local dealer. They did not have a spare so I have to wait (due to Easter time) for next wednesday.

My Omega is equipped with motor oil cooling system and the metal pipes connected to cooler are wery close to the motor block. The wire of the sensor is going between these tubes and the bloc. The gap is so small that it was really impossible to get the connector of the sensor through  that gap. So I cut the wire to get the sensor away and to show it to the dealer so that I get a right spare part. Does anyone have experience about this. Do I have to remove the tubes before installing the new sensor or can I bend...

Another question is the same I already made yesterday. Does the Motronic system not have that mode which could run the engine while e.g. the crank sensor is broken. I remember that Simtec had that mode. If e.g. crank sensor was broken the "motor lamp" in the dashboard was burning but the engine was still running controlled by  the cam sensor. Does anybody know ?
