doing my wishbones this weekend - i've started on the passenger side first in order to get the hard one out of the way!
I'm trying to fit the new wishbone, but whatever I do I cannot get the rear bush in. I've tried thumping it, swearing at it, smoking a fag and looking at it, and I've been trying for the last hour.
Anybody got any tips for getting it in? I think it's the usual problem - the edges of the bush are catching on the bolt hole so it just will not go in.

Agreed. Try and get the strut out of the way so you can push it in flat. Bit of copper grease in the receptacle might help, as well as feeling in there for any burrs and removing them with emery cloth.
Once it's part way in, see if you can use a pry bar or screwdriver to locate it through the bolt hole.

Managed to do that - thanks.
Now the next major problem, whilst trying to locate the bolt from the top, it slipped from my fingers and I think i've dropped it into the subframe.
Anybody got any ideas? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

yep. Try and get the bolt in asap. The crush spacer in the bush can turn in the bracket and jam.
So pull the strut out the way to get the rear bush in with the bone at the right flat angle, bolt in, then front bush then knuckle. Hth

Now the next major problem, whilst trying to locate the bolt from the top, it slipped from my fingers and I think i've dropped it into the subframe.
Anybody got any ideas? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Done that with a socket. You need a magnet on a stick. Wack the sub frame with a mallet to locate it(provided its not dropped fully down as it will if you hit it) the bolt though shouldnt go too far down though i would have thought.?

I think it's dropped a fair way - I can't feel it with my fingertips anywhere!

i bought on ebay a telescopic magenet looks like a pen but extends to 24incs. just right for when you drop bolts down little holes cost me around £ 2.50 with p+p exelent tool :y :y

I've used a great long extending magnet - got it from maplins - and even a metal tape measure with a magnetic tip.
Me and a mate have spent an hour rooting around in the subframe trying to find the bloody bolt - not a sign.
So, I'm off to my local VX parts place in the morning to get another one (fingers crossed they have them in stock), and i'll leave the bloody bolt where it is. If it rattles around i'll fill the subframe with expanding foam, 'cos i'm buggered if I can even find it, never mind get it out!
What a pain in the arse this job is turning out to be!

Based on my girlfriends reaction to me spending every weekend under the bloody car - I bought a right lemon, I can tell you - the next step will be a lit rag in the petrol tank. I've actually driven the car for 2 days in the last month - the rest of the time it's been on axle stands outside my house waiting for parts. >:(
