Title: "how to" on AR35 auto solenoid change
Post by: copcar_omega on 11 April 2009, 13:25:38
Hi. Anyone know of a "how to" on changing the 2/3 gear solenoid in an AR35? Is it accessible through the sump pan opening when it's removed? I had one replaced about a year ago to fix a shifting problem that has since returned. Have a good mechanic available willing to give it a go! Don't want to do expensive work on it as I plan to do only about 3k miles in the next year. Cheers!

yup you get to them by removing the large sump, if i recall there are 4 solenoids held in by a roll pin, easy enough to get out but dont ask me how to i/d which is which :-/

When I did mine, I had to drop the gallery plate as the tension pin wouldn't pull out.

About 6 bolts, when you take it off 2, 6mm (ish) ball bearings drop out and then you think OH S**T   >:( >:(

They locate in 2 of the channel outlets on the steel plate bolted to the cast iron gallery plate, I determined the positions by a small chamfer on the hole to seat the bearing.

When together ok after that
