Rocker cover gasket job seems ok now, but it didn't fix the oil leak as Vauxhall mechanic suggested it would. Now I'm targeting the metal breather pipe going down to the sump. I can't even see where it attaches to the sump - how do you get at it to remove it, and replace the gasket? Do I have to remove something else first?

Clean everything up really well with gunk or similar, you should be able to see where leak is coming from.
Breather pipe is bolted to crankcase low down, almost at the sump flange. Get access to it from underneath, need to jack up or put car on ramps first.
There is a thin metal gasket between breather tube and crankcase, you can fit a new one or use instant gasket such as the black goo you used on the camcover....You did use black goo on the camcover didnt you?

Thanks for that - I'll try to get at it today if the rain holds off. I used blue hylamar on the rocker cover. It's completely dry all around, so the leak is somewhere else, lower down. I didn't know about the black sealant beforehand, so I realize I may have to do the rocker covers over, but so far it's good.

Definitely leaking from bottom of breather pipe, but no way to reach it from below - exhaust and suspension bits blocking - this is a 2.0 litre.
From top there is some hose with a seemingly useless large aluminium flange thingy attached to it blocking access - much longer than the photo shows and goes right down - really in the way. The hose connects to a brass pipe attached to manifold - what is this and can it be removed to get better access?
