Title: Where is Crankshaft Speed Sensor?

This is probably a stupid question but I just can't find it?
I am getting code 019 on the paperclip test in my 1997 2.5V6 which in a previous thread I have been told is the crankshaft speed sensor failing and that it needs changing asap!

Apparently this is an 'easy' job but I have looked but can't identify it !!! - I bought a Haynes manual but ccn't find any mention of it
in there!

Can someone help with exactly where it is and how I get access to it please?

It's next to the oil filter housing, on the passenger side of the engine  :y

yup next to the oil filter, take not of the design as i belive there are two different types of fitting

You getting the fault code because the engine not is startet.

I get code 019 whether the car is running or not

There are two types of plug which is located at the rear of the passenger side head, it should be fixed by a clip to the engine lifting eye ;)

try and reroute the new sensor away from the exhaust manifold should last a fair bit longer then

pre 98 cars have the square connector and 98 on have an oval one

but its best to check before ordering

19 is a stored code from when engine running.  31 is crank sensor code if engine not/wont start

As said sensor end next to oil filter - look to see if black plastic or metal end (yours likely to be black plastic).  Other end under scuttle at back of engine (nearside bank) - you should unplug it and check if square or oval plug.  Changed in 1997 so could be either type.

Thanks to everyone's help I've located the speed sensor next to the oil filter (It's black plastic) but now I can't find the other end!!. - Everything is so tight and it doesn't help having the LPG conversion!!

Do I need to remove anything to find the end at the back of the engine? Presumably I reach it from the top?!

I promise I will stop asking stoopid questions eventually!! ;D

Might be best to remove the Scuttle panel mate, which is the panel which stops the rain running straight on to the engine, the wiper spindle come through the the scuttle panel.

You will see a rear engine lifting point the top of the Crank Sensor will be around there :y

If the end that goes into the engine is black sensor should be about £55 now that Vx prices have gone up >:(
