Title: Exausted by exausts?
Post by: crazyjoetavola on 15 April 2009, 22:25:18
I had the exaust system replaced (from the Cat back) at National Tyre
last year.  They fitted a Bose system.  I have to say that it doesn't sound as refined as the previous Vx. system. :-/

I am thinking of changing it again and wonder if there is a general consensus of the best one to fit.  I have noticed from previous posts that genuine exausts are no longer rated and that various alternatives, including stainless steel, have been suggested.

Can I ask for some general comments based on your experiences? :)

I know it's only a four pot :-[ but it deserves all the help it can get :y

Hello, the quality of genuine systems has gone up and down over the years. My mig has a cat back stainless system fitted. The previous owner who had it fitted was in his 60s and asked for a quiet system.

It is not as quiet as the original by along way, but can make a satisfying growl when pulling away, and is acceptable on motorways etc. but def not like the original.

My Bose system sounds good - audio system that is.  Think you mean Bosal exhausts ;)

Even "genuine" systems from a main dealer are now hit and miss as they are now selling factor quality parts for genuine money!

I, in common with a few other forum members, got a system from Eternal (http://eternalcar.com/). It's one of the cheapest around at about 120 quid delivered for a full V6 system. It's reasonable quality and, whilst it's not as refined as the original system, I don't find it too noisy. It's certainly not as bad as most aftermarket exhausts. Whether it'd be worth swapping yours for one I can't say, of course. :-/
