Even smoother changes, and a subtle better drive out of corners/roundabouts.

I need to add I have a vested interest, seeing as I do the updates (http://theboy.omegaowners.com).

I'm sure others who have had the update will comment :y

father tunnies had the upgrade, massive improvement.

For me its the downshifts which are the biggest improvement, you just don't notice them, only way you can tell the gear changes is watching the rev counter.

None of that 'surge' or rough changing around 50-60 anymore either.

Well worth it  :y

The gear changes are smoother and if you need a bit more power to go up a hill it will keep it in the lower gear for longer making your driving experience more comfortable.
I would recommend getting it done

My older mig (96/97) I belive cant be updated but I found that disconnecting the battery and locking the pos & neg terminals together seemed to reset the gearbox.
Its now very smooth but has a habbit of changing up early at heavy throttle on roundabouts.
That said its understeering like an old mini due to very worn front tyres.
I just use manual overide on the Coventry ring road ::)

Just turning off the ign will partially reset the ecu, enough for it to start off assuming there are no mechanical problems.

In your case, I'd consider changing the atf

Hi.

Just trawling through the OOF pages, and came across this question.

My gearbox could do with an update I think, with how its behaving. My question is; Is there any way you an tell if you have an old map, or if you have the lastest one ????.

Anyone ??  :-?  :-?

Guesses can be made, but the only certain way is to read the current config with tech2, then plug this into tis which will confirm latest version.

If your gearbox has changed performance, then a fluid change is your 1st port of call irrespective of software.

This is a very interesting subject. Mine is a 3.0 V6 Elite and is untouched from new. Could my gearbox be updated through software and what benefits would I gain, and more important, what would it cost?

If it's misbehaving I wouldn't make any changes until it's working normally. Upgrading the firmware won't fix problems with the gearbox, just make a healthy gearbox a little more refined.

First step if you have any reason to doubt the gearbox is probably to change fluid and filter if there is no recent history of theis being done and, while you're there, check for debris in the old fluid and sumps.

However, I can also vouch for the gearbox upgrade being very worthwhile on a healthy gearbox.

Does the existing ATF need to be flushed and changed or should it be topped up? What is a filter - is it the ATF filter?
Title: Re: auto software?
Post by: Jimbob on 16 April 2009, 14:04:57
Yes, small ATF filter in the sump.

Can be replaced or cleaned.

A lot of people buy a 2 gasket and filter set for about £30, so just replace it.

Others use some sort of liquid gasket?  (can anyone identify?)  and clean the filter in parafin

when you drop both sumps, you remove about 1/2 the fluid.

Just changing this gives most people the required benefit.

You could repeat after a few weeks to futher filute the old fluid.

My VIN doesn't end with a letter, but it does start with a W.

correct, its a mix of letters and numbers, but its the last letter in that string of characters that indicates if an update is possible.

Oh I see, mine does end in a W then, so mine could be updated if not already done so. How much would I be looking at to get it updated?

Well......

Seams I'm not the only one having a similar problem.

Thanks to those that have given the advise, I'll try a trans oil change with filter 1st before think about software upgrade.

Anyone know if I can get a auto trans filter from somewhere else, other than the dealers, and how much I can expect to pay ?.
