Does anyone know the sequence and torque settings for the cylinder heads on a 3.0 1999. I have all the parts ready to make a start at rebuilding tomorrow however would like to clarify the sequence first.
Oh and to all that care, I killed the little Fiat on Friday Evening ::)

Torque setting is 25Nm + 90deg + 90deg + 90deg plus an optional 15
So, tighten them all as per the sequence to 20Nm then angle tighten them all by 90deg, then another 90 than a final 90.
Give them a few minutes rest between stages (you will need it anyway on the last 2 90's!)

The next question may sound a bit stupid, but is it possible to align the timing up without the locking tools. My brother recons you can and has marked everything up that he said needed marking to enable it all to be put back together in the correct position, however i have my doubts.
Ive arranged a Cam Locking Set from Alex (ngrainey) however he is still awaiting it being sent back to him and as Ive killed my temporary drive I really need the old girl back on the road.
Whats your opinion, is it possible or not?? :-?

Possible, but not recommended as you can't do the job properly due to the fact you can adjust each bank of cams relative to each otherand relative to the crank.

I take it that the locking tool alows you to adjust each side accordingly without moving the other side then??

You can adjust the eccentric adjusters to adjust each pair relative to each other and then actually check that all the markers line up properly with each other when you've done with the 'specs'.

Nope, it will be quite a bit out and the belt tension suffers as a result.
So in summary, no chance (only a king of bodgers would do that job without the correct tools)

Thanks chaps thats what I thought but wanted a second opinion. Will have to chase alex up to chase his mate up. Buying it off alex but need to get the old girl on the road. :-/

Can i make a suggestion? when you've torque your head bolt's down to 25 nm your far better off to mark each head bolt with a small line of tippex so you know for sure every 90 is an accurate reading as i've got lost before with angle tool maybe use this but use tippex to. trust me on this one :y
