Does anyone know how much difference there is between the 2 and which ones are actually fitted to the migs. I have a 2001 elite and the lights are so much better than on my old rover 75 i love the way when i turn em on they go ping and power up to a nice blue

Xenons & HID are the same thing!

Nice one ta for that :)

I just for clarification, Facelifts either had 'Projectors' with halogen lights, or HIDS/Xenons both terms mean the same light basically.
They have self levelling and washer jets, where as projectors don't

Yup mine have the washers and are self levellings as no height adjuster

There not the same thing....
HID - High Intensity Discharge lamp (as you have on your Elite)
Xenon - A Gas....that could be in a Halogen bulb, a HID bulb, a ballon in the glove box.
Hence why you see Halogen bulbs with xenon gas in them described as Xenon!

Tunnie - as MDTM states, Xenons are not necessarily HIDs.
I believe all HIDs are Xenon filled (MDTM?), but more traditional bulbs can also be Xenon filled, giving the same-ish colour light as HIDs, but nowhere near the intensity. IME, xenon filled halogens provide poorer illumination than standard halogen.

what ever, they all product light therefore the same :P

I miss me rover 75 have to admit but the Lights on the mig ( no pun intended ) are blinding far far better than my rover though the later rovers had projectors. I find it much roomier in the mig easier to see out the side windows compared to the rover bigger front screen as well though i find the rearview mirror a bit in my line of site though i,m 6ft 8 so prolly sit higher in it than the average driver. Love the remote boot release not available on rover miss the auto door lock on rover though maybe its a tech 2 option on the mig. Just loved the dashboard on the rover beautiful cream dials with orange back light ( Blue on the Mg versions ) the seats were comier in the rover though not by that much so overall i,m a confirmed mig owner now. And find all on here so helpul and friendly like the rover forum i was a member off :)

Of course, xenon isn't a halogen.
The point of halogen lamps is that the gas is inert and protects the filament. Xenon is nearly inert so I suspect the reason for putting it in filament lamps would for marketing purposes. I would think any colour-temperature difference in a xenon-filled filament lamp would be un-related. :question
