I am writing this one on behalf of my friend. He's got an old heap with suspected head gasket going. Engine temp is slightly higher, pressure has also increased and small amounts of coolant are missing. Apart from that car is running so it’s not excessive yet.
Car is worth...nothing and he wants’ to scrap it later this year, but there's MOT and Tax on it so he wants’ to drive it for another 2-4 months and send it to car's heaven. ;) He’ll be given a company car, but not now…in 2-3 months time.
It's not worth to do the head gasket so he wants to extend life (agony)of this engine.
Do you think that KSeal will do the treat? There are no external leaks, and it looks like that there's only a coolant going into combustion chamber (no smoking, so no oil involved).
I know that it's not the way to fix a car, and thus I have no experience with products like K-Seal, but it's just not worth to fix this engine as it's going to be scrapped anyway.
Thanks for any info

I would say it might be worth a try if the leak was water jacket to outside or water jacket to crank case, but I can't see it sealing in this case as a fire ring has gone.

Firstly, this is (as you rightly say) an ideal solution!
What car is it? There are some cars where it's a definite no no but TBH he's got nothing to lose! It may or may not work but he may as well have a go, if it's not an engine which will seriously disagree with it!!!

It’s old Cavalier 2.0 16V. I think that head gasket is not gone yet, as there are only small amounts of coolant missing, but I think it’s a matter of weeks to make it worse.
Usually, when it’s really bad, the steel ring is gone and coolant spays into combustion chamber, but this one looks like it’s only leaking…

A C20XE then?
Engine is worth saving even if the rest of the car is rubbish. Sort the head gasket, drive the car until it dies then chuck the lump into a kit car and wait for the big grin to develop 8-). - or sell it for way more than the car is worth.

It could be an X20XE if its post 1993.
K-seal might keep it going for a bit

I think it’s X20XEV, and it’s dying slowly. I’ll tell him to try K-Seal and let you know if it helped.

Yes, I suspect that it's the EcoTec version, as oppose to the Red-Top.
There is some stuff I used in my F-I-L's old Volvo about a year ago who was experiencing the same problems. K-Seal didn't do the trick.
After a bit of digging around, I heard about some stuff called Steel Seal (have a dig around on Google - you should find it).
It did the job - and was still doing it's job 6months later when he got a fresh car.
Hope that helps

This one http://www.steelseal.co.uk/
Bit pricy but looks like it's designed to only fix head problems.
-
Yep, that's the stuff :y
Aye, it is a bit on the pricey side, but it did the job on the F-I-L's Volvo when K-Seal didn't work. But even then, there's no guarantee that Steel Seal will work in this case either... All a bit of a gamble really

To have an idea if this will work will all depend on pressure, on initial startup and running the pressure from the cylinder will be greater than the cooling system thus the sealer will not enter the split as the engine gets hotter the pressure will build up in the cooling system and hopefully enough for the sealer enter the split just try as you can get K-seal off Ebay for £6 inc postage good luck

I tried K-Seal. Did not help like I thounhg so car was scrapped earlier...
