check the oil cooler it produces similar faults to a HG failure have you had a compression test done?

doubtfull to be a hg its quite rare on a v6

How does the car run? Do you do short journeys? Is the oil filler cap a white mayo in colour?

If you do short journeys the this is common on the V6 as the moisture doesn't get chance to burn off.

what oil is in it? try using Vauxhall oil next time it seems to be more resistant to making mayo!

Is the only symptom you have the mayo on the filller cap ?  If so, as said above, it's the short journeys, probably not the HG.

No fluid loss at all I take it ?   Does it hold it's temp ?

There you have answered your own question.

can abyone advise how much i can expect to pay to have this done

£0.00 You have just fixed your car for Nowt and without taking to the garage!!! 9999999,999999,99999,9999,999,99 to OOF 0 to Garages. :y :y :y

As you do short journeys give the car a blast down the motorway to clear it plus do more oil changes to compansate this as well.
